The Role
U.S. Pipe is seeking a Hot Side Manager for our U.S. Pipe plant in Bessemer, Alabama. The ideal candidate will be responsible for supporting and ensuring that pipe and cores are manufactured according to manufacturing and quality specifications and in a cost effective and efficient manner.
Responsibilities- Manage and direct the production of pipe products with direct management responsibilities over Casting, Large Diameter and Core Rooms.
- Monitor, review, and evaluate daily, weekly and monthly production, cost, and material usage data; identify problems, and implement corrective actions.
- Coordinate scheduling activities with the Scheduling Department.
- Direct, train, counsel and advise subordinates in problem solving, work assignments, and actions to be taken.
- Address grievances and conduct grievances meetings as needed.
- Observe confidentiality of all customer and company information.
- Evaluate and make recommendations regarding new processes, equipment, products and services.
- Ensure all work activities are performed safely and efficiently, delivering optimum production with maximum productivity, highest quality, and lowest costs.
- Use RCA thinking to address gaps to the target process condition.
- Perform other duties as assigned by Plant Management.
- A minimum of 5–8 years of experience with knowledge of ductile iron pipe making processes such as casting, melting, or annealing, with 3–5 of those years in supervisory or managerial positions.
- A BS degree in Engineering, Management, Metallurgical, or Industrial Engineering, or equivalent is preferred (not required).
- Experience in Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma is a plus.
- Some formal training and experience in a problem-solving protocol is recommended.
