The Certified Medical Assistant - Surgery Scheduler plays a critical role in ensuring the smooth and efficient scheduling of surgical procedures within a healthcare setting. Minimum Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Certification as a Medical Administrative Assistant (CMAA) or equivalent.
- Minimum of 3 months experience in a medical office or healthcare environment, preferably in scheduling or administrative support.
- Basic knowledge of medical terminology and surgical procedures.
- Proficiency with electronic health record (EHR) systems and standard office software (e.g., Microsoft Office).
- Strong organizational and communication skills.
- Experience specifically in surgery scheduling or working within a surgical department.
- Familiarity with insurance verification processes and prior authorization procedures.
- Knowledge of HIPAA regulations and patient privacy standards.
- Ability to handle high-pressure situations and multitask effectively.
- Coordinate and schedule surgical procedures by communicating with patients, surgeons, anesthesiologists, and nursing staff to confirm availability and requirements.
- Maintain and update surgery schedules using electronic health record (EHR) systems and scheduling software to ensure accuracy and accessibility.
- Verify patient insurance information and obtain necessary authorizations prior to surgery to prevent delays or cancellations.
- Provide patients with pre-operative instructions and answer any questions related to surgery scheduling and preparation.
- Collaborate with multiple departments to resolve scheduling conflicts and accommodate urgent or emergency cases as needed.
- Maintain strict confidentiality of patient information in compliance with HIPAA and organizational policies.
- Prepare and distribute daily surgery schedules and reports to relevant medical and administrative personnel.
