Associate Library Director

The Berwyn Public Library is seeking an experienced Associate Director to join our team. This position supports the Library Director in managing daily operations, supervising department managers, and advancing strategic initiatives that strengthen library services and community impact. This position is non-union.

Key Responsibilities

• Support the Library Director in strategic planning, operations, and organizational leadership.
• Supervise assigned departments and managers; ensure consistent service standards.
• Work collaboratively with union‑represented staff and ensure compliance with collective bargaining agreements.
• Assist in the development of policies, departmental procedures and scheduling coordination.
• Lead or support technology modernization projects and digital service improvements.
• Contribute to budgeting, grant work, and fundraising activities.
• Represent the library at community, municipal, and professional events.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Required:

• MLS/MLIS from an ALA‑accredited program
• Five years of progressively responsible public library experience, including supervision
• Experience working with union‑represented staff
• Strong knowledge of public library operations and technology needs

Preferred:

• Senior management experience in a unionized library
• Experience with labor relations, technology upgrades, fundraising, or grant development
• Experience working with boards or municipal partners

Skills

• Strong leadership, communication, and conflict‑resolution abilities
• Ability to interpret policies and labor agreements
