Overview
The Safety Manager will provide part-time, field-based safety oversight on a heavy civil bridge project, supporting both pre-construction planning and active field operations. This role requires a strong field presence, proactive safety leadership, and the ability to work independently while partnering closely with project leadership.

Project Scope
The Safety Manager will provide part-time, field-based safety oversight on a heavy civil bridge project, supporting both pre-construction planning and active field operations. This role requires a strong field presence, proactive safety leadership, and the ability to work independently while partnering closely with project leadership.
Qualifications
- Strong construction safety background (heavy civil preferred)
- Experience supporting bridge, heavy civil, or infrastructure projects (preferred)
- Proven experience conducting field audits, inspections, and safety training
- Ability to lead safety discussions confidently and professionally
- Working knowledge of OSHA regulations and industry best practices
Key Responsibilities
- Lead pre-construction safety planning and risk assessments alongside the project team
- Assist project leadership in developing, implementing, and monitoring the Project Specific Safety Plan (PSSP)
- Maintain consistent field presence through jobsite inspections, audits, and walk-throughs
- Conduct toolbox talks and lead on-site safety meetings for both large and small groups
- Provide safety training, coaching, and compliance oversight
- Serve as a subject matter expert for safety-related questions and guidance
- Lead incident response and investigation, including root cause analysis and corrective action development
- Ensure OSHA compliance, injury case management, and accurate recordkeeping
- Develop and deliver safety training programs on:
- Rigging
- Fall protection
- Excavation/trenching
- Confined space entry
- Silica exposure mitigation and respiratory fit testing
- Educate crews on safe work practices in extreme weather conditions (hot, cold, wet)
- Collect and review subcontractor safety policies and documentation
- Promote and reinforce Dondlinger safety policies at all levels of the organization
- Work closely with field leadership on fast-paced, multi-scope construction projects
