Backend Developer, Software Engineer
Rise Digital Properties is seeking a versatile backend or fullstack engineer to join our small, high-velocity and mission-driven team. Most of your time will be spent building backend services and developing APIs for our data-rich web application. Ideally, you can also work up the stack on frontend data handling and components.
Rise Digital Properties builds cutting-edge software for Democratic campaigns and progressive political organizations. Our industry-leading tools, including competitive ad analysis, ballot return tracking and media planning systems, are supporting some of the most critical Democratic campaigns of the 2026 midterms, up and down the ballot. Rise is affiliated with Uplift Campaigns, a political services agency with over a decade of experience and 200+ campaigns per cycle, and Viewpoint, one of the largest ad buyers in the Democratic ecosystem.
Inthis role you will:
Backend Engineering (Main focus of this position)
- Design and maintain scalable APIs to support web applications and data tools
- Develop backend features that transform large volumes of raw data into actionable insights
- Expand and optimize ETL pipelines to process political data from varied external sources
- Improve data validation, testing and monitoring systems to ensure data reliability and detect service failures
- Collaborate closely with product, data science, and political strategists, as part of a lean technical team, to ship high-impact features quickly that support campaign decision-making
- Enhance our data models and core Vue/Nuxt components to support new features
- Improve codebase organization by implementing shared components and simplifying patterns
- Strong command of Python and SQL, with a successful record of building and maintaining backend systems, APIs, and data processing pipelines, typically developed over 5-10+ years of experience (or equivalent depth of knowledge demonstrated through prior work)
- Experience with modern data-rich applications, ideally involving analytics, dashboards or large datasets
- Comfort working in Google Cloud (especially Cloud Run, Big Query and Firestore) or equivalent cloud services
- Ability to maintain and debug ETL workflows that ingest, clean and transform large, messy data from diverse sources
- Proficiency in modern frontend frameworks – particularly Vue, Nuxt, Prime Vue or similar JS frameworks
- Comfort working across the stack and taking ownership of technical projects from concept to deployment
- Adept at building greenfield services and features in an expanding codebase
- Passion for political change and electing strong Democratic leaders
- Your work will directly impact Democratic victories during the 2026 midterm elections
- Hybrid work schedule with two days each week in the Berkeley, California office and three days remote
