About Us: CxT Discovery—a non-profit focused research organization (FRO) based at UC Berkeley—is launching drug-discovery campaigns targeting protein interaction networks central to human biology and disease. We aim to develop compounds capable of selectively modulating gene expression to address mechanisms underlying diseases with unmet medical need. By discovering tool compounds, we will enable research that could yield mechanistic insights into the regulation of gene expression and lead to novel therapeutics.

About You: CxT is looking for a highly motivated, creative, and nimble scientist who will be at the core of our drug discovery programs—someone with a “startup” mindset and drive. You combine industry-level rigor and team focus with academia-level curiosity and independent thinking. You thrive in a fast-paced environment and are passionate about drug discovery, scientific communication, and building a company for success.

Responsibilities:

  • Contribute collaboratively with our research team to target selection and scientific strategy
  • Develop, troubleshoot, and optimize assays for small molecule screening
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with biologists and chemists to drive hit finding and structure-activity-relationship (SAR) optimizaton for drug discovery programs
  • Communicate your science and engage with the scientific community to disseminate your results and tools
  • Maintain detailed and organized records of experimental protocols and results
  • Mentor research associates

Qualifications:

  • PhD-level scientist with significant experience in biochemistry, particularly related to the molecular mechanisms critical for the regulation of gene expression
  • Established track record of publication in top-tier journals
  • Keen analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Technical expertise in molecular biology and cellular assay development
  • Strong ability and interest in scientific communication and community building
  • Collaborative, communicative, and flexible; eager to do whatever is needed to help the team succeed
  • Unwavering integrity, accountability, transparency, and respect for others
  • Deep passion and curiosity for biological discovery on path to novel therapeutics

Benefits and Compensation:

CxT provides a competitive benefits package that includes access to Medical, Dental, and Vision Insurance, Life Insurance, Short and Long Term Disability, Health Savings Account (HSA) and/or Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA), a retirement plan and DTO.

The anticipated salary range for fully qualified candidates applying for this role will be $90,000 – $120,000 annually (not including discretionary bonus and benefits). The final salary offered will be dependent on several factors that include but are not limited to relevant previous experience including duration and type of experience within academia and industry.
