Emergency Technician Supervisor – Berkeley Dog & Cat Hospital Position Overview
- The Emergency Technician Supervisor supports hospital operations by providing dedicated quality veterinary care and exceptional service to our patients and clients. Responsibilities include providing patient care by determining animal requirements, conducting examinations and diagnostic procedures, assisting during surgery and operations, providing nursing care, assisting with feeding and caring for patients, maintaining medical supplies and equipment, overseeing triage and discharging patients, and maintaining patient medical records.
- Determine animal requirements by conducting examinations and interviews, reviewing care plans and records, completing laboratory tests, and diagnostic imaging.
- Care for patients by taking vital signs, collecting samples, administering medications, including drugs and vaccines, and bandaging wounds.
- Support patient examinations and operations by assembling required supplies, securing and bringing patients to examination rooms, restraining patients, and assisting as directed by the veterinarian.
- Apply full knowledge of anatomy, physiology, disease processes, pharmacology, and specialized equipment to provide excellent pet care.
- Obtain and verify medications.
- Ensure patients have food and water, clean rooms and equipment, and observe patients for clinical signs of disease.
- As directed, fill prescriptions and administer medications, including proper documentation, logging, and security of controlled drugs.
- Maintain a safe, secure, and humane environment by sterilizing, disinfecting, and storing supplies, verifying shelf life, and following standards and procedures in compliance with legal regulations.
- Maintain medical records by documenting patients’ conditions, reactions, and changes; update the database promptly and accurately.
- Communicate with pet owners about the status of the patient, as directed by the veterinarian.
- Maintain equipment by following operating instructions, troubleshooting breakdowns, performing preventive maintenance, and requesting repairs.
- Maintain inventory, place orders for supplies, verify receipts, and manage inventory records.
- Update job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities and reading professional journals.
- Release pets to owners as directed; ensure each animal is clear, groomed, and ready for release.
- Understand and carry out oral and written directions.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Manager or practice.
- High school diploma or GED.
- Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT) license as required by state.
- At least two years of experience with veterinary appointments, surgeries, and nursing care for hospitalized and critical patients.
- Equivalent combination of education, certification, training, and/or experiences may be considered.
- Displays a desire to build rapport, provide personal assistance, and emotional support.
- Works cooperatively with the team to address tasks and accomplish goals.
- Demonstrates responsibility in completing tasks and achieving objectives.
- Proactively seeks opportunities to address and follow through on work activities.
- Adapts quickly to changing demands and manages multiple priorities effectively.
- Uses effective and appropriate communication methods.
- Provides outstanding customer service and exceeds expectations.
- Monitors and reviews information thoroughly and maintains an organized system for all documents.
- Consistently follows standard procedures.
- Monday through Sunday
$32 – $38 USD
