Registered Nurse (RN) – GI Lab / Endoscopy - Travel Position (with $7,500 Completion Bonus)

Pay: $2,510/week (plus $2,500 completion bonus per contract, up to $7,500 after three contracts)

Position Summary

The GI Lab RN provides safe, evidence-based nursing care for patients undergoing gastrointestinal endoscopic procedures (e.g., EGD, colonoscopy, ERCP, EUS, PEG, capsule endoscopy). This role covers preprocedure assessment, intraprocedure circulating/sedation support, and postanesthesia recovery, collaborating closely with gastroenterologists, anesthesia providers, and the endoscopy team to deliver high-quality, patient-centered care.

Key Responsibilities Pre Procedure  (Pre Op)
  • Perform comprehensive nursing assessments, verify H&P, consents, NPO status, anticoagulant management, allergies, and ASA status in collaboration with anesthesia.
  • Establish IV access; administer preprocedure medications per protocol.
  • Provide patient/family education on procedure expectations, sedation, discharge, and postprocedure monitoring.
Intra Procedure
  • Function as circulating RN: maintain a sterile/safe environment, ensure timeout, specimen handling/labeling, and accurate documentation.
  • Administer and titrate moderate sedation/analgesia (per facility policy and scope); monitor hemodynamics, airway, pain, and patient response.
  • Anticipate provider needs; assist with equipment (insufflation, electrosurgery units, irrigation, hemostasis devices, biopsy forceps, snares, retrieval tools, dilation devices, banding kits).
  • Recognize and respond to complications (e.g., vasovagal events, bleeding, perforation, laryngospasm) and activate emergency protocols as needed.
Post Procedure (Recovery/PACU)
  • Conduct postanesthesia/sedation assessments; monitor vitals and Aldrete scoring or equivalent.
  • Manage pain, nausea, hydration; reinforce discharge instructions including complication red flags and follow-up.
  • Ensure safe discharge with an escort per policy; complete documentation and charge capture.
Quality, Safety & Compliance
  • Adhere to infection prevention standards (high-level disinfection/sterilization workflows, endoscope reprocessing awareness, PPE).
  • Comply with facility policies and regulatory/accreditation standards (e.g., TJC, AAAHC, CMS).
  • Participate in quality initiatives (e.g., scope reprocessing audits, indicator tracking such as ADR/cecal intubation rates support, scope leak testing logs).
Teamwork & Professional Practice
  • Precept new staff; participate in competencies, mock codes, and education (airway management, sedation safety).
  • Collaborate with schedulers, materials management, and biomedical/sterile processing to ensure case readiness and equipment availability.
  • Contribute to throughput optimization and patient experience initiatives.
Qualifications Education
  • Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing; BSN preferred.
Licensure/Certification
  • Current RN license in [State/Region].
  • BLS required; ACLS required (or within 3–6 months per facility).
  • PALS preferred (pediatric programs).
  • Moderate Sedation competency per facility policy (completion of sedation training/annual validation).
Experience
  • 1–2 years of acute care RN experience required (PACU, ED, ICU, telemetry, or procedural areas preferred).
  • Prior Endoscopy/GI Lab or perioperative nursing experience strongly preferred.
Skills & Knowledge
  • Proficiency in patient assessment, IV therapy, cardiac/respiratory monitoring, and sedation monitoring/titration.
  • Familiarity with endoscopy equipment, accessories, electrosurgery safety, and specimen handling.
  • Strong critical thinking, rapid response to changes in status, and effective escalation.
  • Excellent communication, patient education, and service recovery skills.
  • EMR proficiency; accurate real-time documentation.
