Departmental Overview

University Development and Alumni Relations (UDAR) increases support for and enhances knowledge of UC Berkeley through communications, public outreach, and fundraising. UDAR is responsible for fundraising and donor engagement, consulting and partnering with campus fundraisers, and handling central activities such as events, communications, stewardship, prospect development, gift management and database management. The Student Experience & Diversity (SED) Philanthropy program builds innovative philanthropic partnerships to ensure that belonging, discovery, and financial access are integral to every Berkeley student's education.

SED primarily raises major gifts in support of student aid, co‑curricular activities, and equity and inclusion, interfacing with many campus units and serving as the primary fundraising entity for Equity & Inclusion, Undergraduate Education, and Student Affairs.

Position Summary

The Development Coordinator performs the administrative services and general operations of the Student Experience and Diversity fundraising team (SED). Responsibilities include navigating and executing complex organizational systems, coordinating events and meetings, collaborating with campus stakeholders, utilizing the advancement database system to produce reports, and providing customer service to internal and external stakeholders. The role also engages in short and long‑term strategic planning to align SED operations with fundraising goals.

Responsibilities
  • Drive essential SED administrative operations, including scheduling, purchasing and finance, vendor coordination, policy compliance, and communicating with high‑level stakeholders on behalf of the SED Executive Director and the team.
  • Support SED major‑gift donor engagement by ensuring meeting logistics, communicating with identified parties, and preparing materials.
  • Participate in and evolve SED's operating systems by maintaining existing systems, auditing and updating materials, and recommending and implementing smarter, more efficient ways of working.
  • Use the advancement data system to gather and analyze fundraising and operational data, prepare clear reports, and evaluate the effectiveness of SED’s fundraising and operational efforts to develop recommendations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned that support SED, UDAR development/operations, and campus through unique projects or initiatives.
Required Qualifications
  • Minimum two years’ experience demonstrating sound judgment in responding to issues and concerns.
  • Minimum two years’ experience applying solid communication and interpersonal skills to communicate effectively with all levels of staff, verbally and in writing.
  • Minimum two years’ experience demonstrating solid organizational skills and the ability to multi‑task with demanding time frames.
  • Ability to use discretion and maintain confidentiality.
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related area and/or equivalent experience/training.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Working knowledge of and/or the ability to quickly learn common organization‑specific and other computer application programs.
