Overview
YWCA Berkeley/Oakland is dedicated to eliminating racism, empowering women, and promoting peace, justice, freedom, and dignity for all. We are seeking a Fund Development Assistant to support our Executive Director and development team in advancing this mission. This part-time role (10 hours/week) is ideal for a student looking to build hands-on experience in nonprofit fundraising, donor engagement, and mission-driven communications.
Responsibilities- Grant Support: Assist in tracking deadlines, funding pipelines, and application materials. Help draft, format, and proofread Letters of Inquiry (LOIs), proposals, and reports.
- Funder & Donor Research: Research prospective foundation and corporate funders. Maintain prospect lists and help prepare briefing materials for meetings with potential supporters.
- CRM & Donor Tracking: Keep development records up to date in our CRM system, including donor/funder activity, contact info, and sponsorship fulfilment.
- Communications & Stewardship: Draft donor acknowledgment letters, thank-you emails, and updates. Support cultivation efforts such as tours, site visits, or small donor events.
- Event & Campaign Support: Help organize materials for fundraising events and special campaigns (e.g. Giving Tuesday). Collaborate with communications and event partners to ensure messaging and timelines align.
- Cross-Team Coordination: Liaise with program staff and consultants to help translate program impact into compelling funding language for proposals and reports.
- Strong writing and editing skills with an interest in storytelling and community impact.
- Excellent organizational skills; able to juggle multiple projects and deadlines.
- Interest in nonprofit development, fundraising, racial/gender justice, or community-based work.
- Prior experience with research, fundraising, communications, or database management (helpful but not required).
- Cultural humility and commitment to equity and YWCA’s mission.
- Location: Hybrid; some in-person availability at our Berkeley office is preferred
- Duration: Spring 2026
- Rate: $20 per hour
This is a great opportunity to gain direct experience with institutional fundraising, donor cultivation, and strategic communications in a mission-driven environment. You’ll work closely with senior leadership and gain mentorship in nonprofit development while supporting programs that create real impact in our communities.
