An Engineering Technician, Machine Shop/Prototyping job opportunity is open with our client in Berkeley, CA. In this role you will support the development, testing, and validation of energy storage products. This role is hands‑on and critical to building the electrical test infrastructure that enables safe, reliable evaluation of PCBAs, battery cells, modules, and system‑level hardware. The ideal candidate is detail‑oriented, thrives in a lab environment, and has experience with control panel wiring, harness fabrication, and PCBA assembly.

Job Duties
  • Fabricate prototype components and custom test equipment using standard shop tools and machinery (drill press, grinders, mills, plasma cutter, welders, bandsaws, etc.).
  • Interpret engineering drawings, CAD models, and fabrication prints.
  • Perform precision machining, cutting, drilling, tapping, grinding, and finishing operations.
  • Assist engineers with design‑for‑manufacturability feedback.
  • Modify and rework prototype parts based on rapid iteration cycles.
  • Assemble mechanical fixtures, structural frames, enclosures, and test stands.
  • Ensure parts meet dimensional and quality specifications.
  • Maintain clean, safe, and organized shop practices.
  • Track materials and communicate equipment/tooling needs.
Knowledge / Skills / Experience / Education
  • 3+ years of hands‑on machining experience in a prototype, R&D, or low‑volume manufacturing environment.
  • Proficiency operating both manual and CNC machining equipment.
  • Experience with welding (steel and aluminum preferred).
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and GD&T.
  • Experience working with aluminum, steel, stainless steel, and plastics.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate with engineering teams.
