Departmental Overview

Intercollegiate Athletics (IA) at the University of California at Berkeley is responsible for 30 NCAA Division I sports programs and approximately 850 students. The Facilities unit provides daily maintenance and operational support to coaches, staff, and participants in athletic programming.

Position Summary

This position involves the maintenance and support of athletic buildings, managing logistics such as maintenance, resource scheduling, facility scheduling, vendors, equipment/furniture setup, and facilitation of communication and services with campus partners, internal staff, and participants in events.

Responsibilities
  • Building Management – works with all components of assigned buildings and its operation, maintenance, and repair.
  • Perform routine checks of all components of the building, identifying those that require repair.
  • Serve as the main point of contact for any and all issues with assigned building from stakeholders, occupants, and other campus entities.
  • Manage trade(s) workers and their specific work in and around Athletics facilities.
  • Identify, prioritize, assign, and track work for the employees ensuring tasks are completed on time and provide assistance when requested.
  • May oversee and provide direction to student workers that assist with facility setups and facility tasks.
  • Serve as the facility support staff member for any sporting and special events held in the assigned buildings.
  • Work closely with Athletics event staff on setups and the operation of sporting events, ensuring technical and equipment portions of event are running appropriately.
  • In conjunction with managing specs of the assigned facilities, work closely with vendors, contractors and campus stakeholders on work they perform within a building.
  • Update and maintain work agreements with Campus Facility Services, approve work orders, and ensure required maintenance is scheduled.
  • As requested, perform quality control checks across various facilities, identifying areas of improvement, new projects and issues that will be addressed by facility staff.

Required Qualifications
  • Thorough knowledge in and/or ability to quickly learn the areas of building space planning, codes, capacity, security, fire safety, organization and departmental principles and procedures involved in risk assessment and evaluating risks as to likelihood and consequences.
