The Innovative Genomics Institute is a joint effort between the Bay Area's leading scientific research institutions, UC Berkeley and UC San Francisco, with affiliates at UC Davis, Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, Gladstone Institutes, and other institutions. The IGI's diverse group of leading scientists have powerful interdisciplinary expertise. They conduct world‑class research, driven by the real possibility of using genome engineering to treat human diseases, end hunger, and respond to climate change.
In addition to our scientific efforts, the IGI is committed to advancing public understanding of genome engineering, providing resources for the broader community, and guiding the ethical use of these technologies.
Position SummaryThis role provides strategic leadership and high‑level program management for the ARPA‑H funded EMBODY Project at the IGI. Reporting to the Executive Director of the IGI, the position serves as a principal strategist and operational lead, driving the design, coordination, and implementation of the program, ensuring integration across multiple labs. Exercises independent judgment in developing and executing complex, multi‑institutional project strategies, aligning scientific, administrative, and compliance objectives across campuses.
The position develops and oversees the operational and policy frameworks that enable sustained collaboration, shared resource management, and timely achievement of project milestones within a rapidly evolving biomedical research environment.

Responsibilities- Lead the strategic analysis of research performance across both projects, ensuring alignment with the approved Project Plans and institutional goals.
- Partner with the EMBODY Director and workstream leads at the prime organization to establish, evaluate, and refine robust performance metrics.
- Design and implement program‑wide operational frameworks and 'ways of work' that ensure efficiency, accountability, and harmonization across academic and industry partners.
- Serve as a senior integrator and liaison across UC and industry stakeholders, ensuring seamless alignment of all work streams with EMBODY objectives.
- In close coordination with the larger team, drive strategic collaboration and issue resolution among UC Berkeley, UC San Francisco and others. Facilitate high‑level governance processes and oversee the cadence, structure, and content of recurring cross‑institutional communications and collaborations.
