This job description describes the Senior Custodian role within Residential and Student Services Programs (RSSP). RSSP provides residential housing, family housing, life programs, facilities services, dining services, child care, and related operations.
Position SummaryResidential and Student Services Programs (RSSP) is part of the Division of Student Affairs. The Senior Custodian reports directly to the Custodial Supervisor or Lead Custodian and maintains the appearance and cleanliness of assigned areas using approved methods and products.
Responsibilities- CUSTODIAL DUTIES
- Provide quality customer service during interactions with internal and external customers.
- Operate, maintain, set up and dismantle a full range of cleaning equipment (vacuum cleaners, buffers, pressure washing equipment, wet/dry vacuums, floor scrubbing/polishing machines).
- Clean and maintain offices, lounges, student common areas, lobbies, hallways, stairwells, walkways, outside steps, terraces, balconies, trash and laundry rooms, kitchenettes, and other designated areas.
- Dust, wipe, and clean moldings, windowsills, handrails, door tracks, radiators, furniture, inside windows on all floors and outside windows on ground floors; sweep, mop and clean floors and stairwells; strip or scrub floors as needed; vacuum, sweep, shampoo and spot-clean rugs and carpets; clean and disinfect facilities; replace paper products; take out trash and compost; report damage and maintenance needs.
- Assist with residential/meeting room setups, move furniture up to 40 lbs; clean rooms and follow setup checklists; perform occasional overtime as requested.
- Assist with conference operations including linen handling, room cleaning, and setup as part of a team; report damages and maintain inventory procedures.
- Support summer transition cleaning of student rooms, including trash removal, floor care, furniture movement, and window cleaning; document and report damages.
- Contribute to custodial projects such as dusting and cleaning light fixtures and other specified tasks.
- Required Qualifications
- Custodial cleaning experience with use of custodial equipment (buffers, floor machines, power washers, blowers, vacuums).
- Knowledge of cleaning methods for different floor types (tile, wood, cement, carpet) and safe work practices with PPE and MSDS.
- Ability to lift up to 25 lb and move up to 100 lb; adapt to security procedures for buildings and keys.
- Basic English skills (reading, writing, listening, speaking) and ability to read MSDS and warning labels; follow oral and written instructions for equipment and chemicals.
- Strong communication, teamwork, and customer service abilities; ability to work with minimal supervision in varied environments.
- Experience in custodial services, preferably in college/university housing, hotel or property management.
