Test Equipment Design Engineer (Mechanical) job opportunity is open with our client in Berkeley, CA. In this role you will be responsible for the design and delivery of test equipment that enables the execution of critical tests across our iron-air battery systems and supporting hardware. To be considered for this role you will have 3+ years of experience in mechanical design and/or test equipment development (battery or energy systems experience is a plus) and BS or MS in Mechanical Engineering or related field.

Job Duties
- Design, build, and deploy custom jigs and fixtures used in the mechanical testing of our components, PCBAs, and systems.
- Design, build and deploy material handling hardware used for lifting, locating and moving cells and modules used in our Test Equipment.
- Design the mechanical packaging for test equipment used in the verification testing of BMS hardware, including bench-level functional test setups, hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) systems for firmware and controls algorithm verification testing, reliability test beds, and compliance/certification test beds.
- Architect and implement test equipment for air and liquid-handling test beds used in the verification testing of our BESS auxiliary systems.
- Collaborate with electrical engineers in the selection of sensors, actuators and measurement hardware.
- Contribute to the software development of test beds, including control, automation, and data acquisition functionality.
- Ensure equipment designs meet safety, reliability, and compliance standards for high-power and hazardous systems.
- Document test system designs, usage guidelines, and validation procedures.
- Support troubleshooting, maintenance, and continuous improvement of deployed test infrastructure.
- BS or MS in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
- 3+ years of experience in mechanical design and/or test equipment development (battery or energy systems experience is a plus).
- Proficiency with mCAD tools (Solid Works, NX, etc.)
- Experience working in a Manufacturing Engineering environment, delivering on production-quality tools and designs.
- Strong understanding of safety and compliance considerations in high-power and/or chemical environments.
- Excellent problem-solving skills, with the ability to balance speed, rigor, and safety.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work cross-functionally in a fast-paced environment.
