Reports to: Director of Special Education under Special Services / Zac Administration Center as part of the district's Multilingual Program.

Position Summary

The Camas School District is seeking a qualified High School English Language Development (ELD) Instructor (.2 FTE) to teach a designated, credit‑bearing ELD course for multilingual learners. This is a teaching position responsible for delivering semester‑based instruction (.5 credit per term), grading, progress reporting, and all associated classroom teacher responsibilities. Instruction focuses on standards‑aligned English language development for students with varied English language proficiency levels and diverse linguistic backgrounds and is aligned to WIDA English Language Development Standards and Washington State OSPI multilingual learner guidance.

The successful candidate will demonstrate experience supporting multilingual learners through targeted language instruction and scaffolding, progress monitoring, and collaboration with content‑area teachers within an MTSS framework.

General Responsibilities

Provide designated English Language Development instruction as the teacher of record for a credit‑bearing ELD course aligned to WIDA ELD Standards and OSPI multilingual learner guidance. Deliver instruction that supports students across multiple levels of English language proficiency and linguistic backgrounds. Build language skills in listening, speaking, reading, and writing through structured, research‑aligned ELD practices.

Develop learning experiences that promote academic language growth, student engagement, and access to grade‑level content. Collaborate with content teachers, ML specialists, and support staff to align language supports with classroom instruction. Maintain strong communication with students and families regarding progress and support.

Essential Functions
  • Deliver standards‑aligned designated ELD instruction for high school multilingual learners
  • Plan, implement, and refine course curriculum, scope, and sequence aligned to WIDA ELD Standards, Washington State Learning Standards, and student language proficiency data to support access to core instruction.
  • Differentiate instruction for students across multiple English language proficiency levels
  • Use language proficiency and classroom data to guide instruction and progress monitoring
  • Support development of academic language across content areas
  • Collaborate with teachers and specialists to support instructional access for multilingual learners
  • Maintain accurate instruction and progress records
  • Participate in MTSS/RTI processes as appropriate
  • Create a safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environment
Other Functions

Minimum Qualifications
  • Valid Washington State Teaching Certificate
  • Washington State Multilingual Learner (ML/ELL) Endorsement required
  • Knowledge of WIDA ELD Standards, proficiency level descriptors, and key language uses, and ability to apply WIDA frameworks to instructional planning, language objectives, and student progress monitoring
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of Washington State OSPI multilingual learner guidance and its application to instruction, student support, and program implementation
  • Knowledge of culturally responsive and linguistically sustaining instructional practices
  • Knowledge of MTSS frameworks and use of the Critical Data Process approach to distinguish language acquisition factors from potential disability when reviewing student performance data
  • Knowledge and implementation of Universal Design for Learning (UDL) principles in instructional planning and delivery
  • Strong instructional, collaboration, and communication skills
  • Ability to support students from multiple language backgrounds and proficiency levels
Preferred Qualifications
  • Secondary ELD teaching experience
  • Experience aligning ELD instruction with content‑area coursework
