Position description

The Department of Molecular and Cell Biology (MCB) at UC Berkeley invites applications for a pool of non-tenure track Lecturer positions to teach MCB courses as the need arises.

Teaching Responsibilities

We are seeking outstanding lecturers who can teach/co-teach small, medium and large size lecture, seminar and/or laboratory courses in the subject areas listed below:

  • Biochemistry, Biophysics and Structural Biology
  • Cell Biology, Development and Physiology
  • Genetics, Genomics, Evolution and Development
  • Immunology and Molecular Medicine
  • Molecular Therapeutics

General Duties

In addition to teaching responsibilities, general duties include holding office hours, assigning grades, advising students, preparing course materials (e.g., syllabus), maintaining a course website, and using a learning management system (e.g., bCourses at UC Berkeley, Canvas, etc.).

Qualifications

Basic qualifications (required at time of application)

Minimum Basic Qualifications (at the time of application):

Laboratory Courses and Lecturer Courses: A Master’s degree (or equivalent international degree) is required by time of application.

Additional qualifications (required at time of start)

Lecturer Courses: A Ph.D or M.D. degree (or equivalent international degree) is required to teach a lecture course by the time of hire.

Preferred qualifications

Preferred Qualifications (by start date):

  • Lecture Courses:
    Documented experience in teaching one of the biological or life sciences at the college level.
  • Laboratory Courses:
    Completion of all Ph.D (or equivalent international degree) requirements except dissertation in a biological field or life sciences.
  • Ability to support the success of all students through inclusive curriculum, classroom environment, and pedagogy
