Position title: Lecturer
Salary range: A reasonable estimate for Lecturer positions is an annual salary range of $70,977 - $117,315. The UC academic salary scales set the minimum pay the current salary scale(s): https://(Use the "Apply for this Job" box below)..pdf
Percent time: 17% - 83% (one - five courses) over the academic year. Most academic-year appointments are assigned at 37% per course per semester which equates to total pay per course of $13,130 - $21,703. Summer Sessions courses are typically 11% per course which equates to total pay per course of $7,807 - $12,904. Please note, currently, we are not recruiting for any full-time positions.
It is unlikely we will hire a candidate for more than one class in the regular academic year, and more than two classes in the summer.
Review timeline: The Department typically reviews applications for course needs in October/November prior to the next academic year; however, applications will be reviewed throughout the academic year and leading up to any particular semester, including hiring for Summer Sessions. Applicants are considered for positions as needs arise; the existence of this pool does not guarantee that a position is available. Position descriptionThe Department of Economics at the University of California, Berkeley is recruiting a pool of qualified lecturers to teach core and upper-division undergraduate courses in Economics.
Teaching responsibilitiesThe Department of Economics is seeking outstanding instructors to be appointed in the Non-Senate Lecturer title series who can teach Economics courses that may include large courses (300 or more students).
General dutiesIn addition to teaching responsibilities, general duties include (but are not limited to) managing graders and/or graduate student instructors (teaching assistants), holding office hours, assigning grades, advising students, preparing course materials (e.g., syllabus), and maintaining a course website. Those teaching large courses are expected to work with, meet with, and mentor graduate student instructors.
QualificationsBasic qualifications (required at time of application)
PhD (or equivalent international degree) or enrolled in a PhD (or equivalent international degree) program.
Additional qualifications (required at time of start)
Ph.D. (or equivalent international degree).
Preferred qualifications
A Ph.D. (or equivalent international degree) in Economics or a related discipline, is preferred. Demonstrated experience with courses in Economics, and a track record of excellence in teaching to a diverse undergraduate student body.
