The Residence Life Coordinator is a 12-month live-in, professional staff member responsible for creating welcoming residential environments that facilitate student engagement and involvement within the residence hall and greater campus community. The Residence Life Coordinator is responsible for overseeing the safety, security, and well-being of residential students living on campus. In support of Berea College’s eight Great Commitments, the Residence Life Coordinator will seek to foster diverse, equitable, and inclusive spaces that support educational opportunity and an understanding of the dignity of labor.
The Residence Life Coordinator will oversee core housing and residence life responsibilities while also maintaining Student Life goals, policies, and administrative processes. This individual must have the ability to multi-task, work in integrative team structures, and be autonomous.
- Foster a vibrant and inclusive residential community by employing innovative ideas and approaches.
- Promote resident development as interdependent responsible community members who respect diversity and differences. Work effectively with a culturally diverse population of students to coach, mentor, and support dynamic needs. Employ educational principles to address concerns and encourage conflict resolution through mediation.
- Proactively develop opportunities to engage diverse communities and build inclusive environments. Invest in relationships and programs to celebrate and support culturally diverse student populations.
- Facilitate student belonging and safety in gender-inclusive and co-educational residential communities, fostering inclusive and equitable environments for LGBTQ+ residents.
- Maintain high visibility and engagement with the student body and campus community at College events.
- Supervise and provide coaching and development for up to three Hall Directors.
- Provide developmentally appropriate training, supervision, and evaluation of student staff, prioritizing community development, inclusion, and well-being.
- Collaborate with other campus departments to enhance students’ curricular and co-curricular experiences as a way of supporting students’ transition to college, retention, academic success, social development, and overall wellness.
- Maintain up to date and accurate databases and systems (e.g., keys, rosters, etc.). Oversee maintenance, custodial services, and safety in assigned residence halls in collaboration with Facilities Management and Public Safety.
- Effectively manage all financial resources for assigned hall(s).
- Provide leadership and support in crisis management situations, which includes rotational 24-hour on-call duty.
- Assume administrative responsibility for an assigned Student Life collaborative assignment, encompassing 10+ hours per week developing programs, processes, policies, and procedures in the functional area.

assignments are designated by the Associate Dean for Student Life and are subject to change. - Evaluate and assess programs, services, and curricula to match student learning outcomes and the mission of the Department and College. Design and implement results-based improvements.
- Serve as a member of a collaborative and team-oriented Campus Life staff while supporting the mission and vision of Berea College and the Student Life division.
- Role model the college motto, “God has made of one blood, all peoples of the Earth”.
- Support and uphold Berea College’s policies and procedures and all aspects of the Student Handbook.
- Promote and model all Student Life professional standards.
- In support of Berea College’s great commitments this position requires student supervision. The fourth great commitment is to promote learning and serving in community through the student labor program, honoring the dignity and utility of all work, mental and manual, and taking pride in work well done. The Supervision would include scheduling, assigning and approving work performed. Developing students about common workplace acumen and giving them tangible work experience is an expected outcome.
