Senior, Software Engineer - Unified Platform

About the Team

• The Unified Payments team is building a next‑generation platform to handle all payment processing across Walmart’s physical and digital channels.
• The platform is being re‑architected from a legacy mainframe to a modern, cloud‑native solution.

• Translate complex business requirements into scalable, maintainable software solutions.
• Design and implement microservices using Java, Spring Boot and Kubernetes in a cloud‑native environment.
• Collaborate with Staff Engineers and Architects to align on technical direction and best practices.
• Contribute to the integration of LLMs and AI agents into internal tools and services to improve automation and decision‑making.
• Participate in code reviews, design discussions, and mentoring of junior engineers.
• Troubleshoot production issues, perform root‑cause analysis, and implement long‑term fixes.
• Continuously improve system performance, observability, and reliability.

• You are a strong backend engineer with a passion for clean code, scalable systems, and continuous learning.
• You’re curious about AI and LLMs

• 5–8 years of experience in software engineering, with a focus on backend systems.
• Proficiency in Java, Spring Boot and microservices architecture

• Experience with Kubernetes

  , and cloud platforms (GCP preferred).
• Exposure to LLMs
  , prompt engineering, or AI/ML tools is a plus.
• Familiarity with agentic frameworks (e.g., Lang Chain, CrewAI) is a bonus.
• Strong understanding of CI/CD, observability, and Dev Ops practices.
• Excellent problem‐solving and communication skills.

• Experience modernizing legacy systems or working on payment platforms.
• Contributions to internal tools or AI‑driven developer productivity initiatives.
• Passion for mentoring and growing as a technical leader.

The annual salary range for this position is $90,000.00 – $, with additional performance bonuses.

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, computer engineering, computer information systems, software engineering, or related area and 3 years’ experience in software engineering or related area.
• 5 years’ experience in software engineering or related area.

• Master’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Computer Information Systems, Software Engineering, or related area and 1 year’s experience in software engineering or related area. Knowledge of inclusive digital experiences and Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 AA standards is valued.
