Regional Field Service Technician I
Status: Non-Exempt (hourly)
Department: Field Service
Position Summary
The Regional Field Service Technician will support our fuel cell products installed in electric lift trucks, performing preventative maintenance and resolving breakdowns. Responsibilities include servicing fuel cells across the assigned region, reporting breakdown events, parts ordering, and maintaining fuel cells. The role involves significant interaction with customer personnel and lift truck operators, requiring excellent technical, communication, interpersonal, and motivational skills.
Core Duties and Responsibilities
- Maintain and service fuel cells at customer sites within the region.
- Diagnose, troubleshoot, and evaluate fuel cell systems to ensure optimal fleet operation.
- Perform specialized service procedures, including retrofits and software/hardware upgrades.
- Provide emergency support to customers as needed.
- Purchase tools, equipment, and parts for service support.
- Troubleshoot and maintain high-pressure hydrogen storage, delivery, and fueling systems.
- Communicate with hydrogen suppliers regarding fuel cell support.
- Provide feedback on fuel cell performance and maintenance issues.
- Complete administrative tasks such as incident reports, service logs, and inventory documentation.
- Enforce safety procedures at all times.
- Travel as required, driving safely and adhering to traffic laws.
- Represent Plug Power professionally in all interactions.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Education and Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent, with technical electrical coursework preferred.
- Minimum of 3 years' experience in mechanical and electrical troubleshooting.
- Formal training may substitute for experience.
- Valid driver’s license with a clean record.
- Ability to lift 50 pounds regularly.
- Knowledge of lift truck operation is preferred.
- Mechanical aptitude and proficiency with computers and software (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook).
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Creative problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
- Reliable and punctual.
- Own tools required; specific fuel cell tools provided by Plug Power.
- Willingness to travel 100% of the time.
Step 1 Requirements
Technical & Non-Technical
Complete onboarding and customer site training (LMS).
Willingness to learn, accept coaching, and grow.
Create work orders, order parts, and close work orders accurately.
Demonstrate punctuality and reliability.
Utilize email, alerts, expense systems, and service portals effectively.
Maintain a positive attitude and demonstrate effective communication.
Use multimeters and other tools as trained.
Show courtesy and respect to colleagues and customers.
Submit accurate daily reports and escalate issues appropriately.
Adhere to safety standards and perform system inspections.
Follow all field service procedures.
Step 2 RequirementsTechnical & Non-Technical
Learn to check grounds, replace stacks, practice 5S standards, and handle batteries and parts.
Respond to off-shift needs and demonstrate understanding of H2 systems, including locks, valves, and compressors.
Communicate effectively with management and team members.
Perform hands-on training such as LOTO procedures and system resets.
Pay Rate: $23.00 - $33.00 per hour.
