Overview
Henderson Engineers is hiring a Fire Engineering Manager to lead technical design and people management within a historic client line. The role blends advanced fire system design, project execution, and team development.
Responsibilities- Lead, mentor, and manage a discipline‑aligned team of engineers and designers, fostering a collaborative, high‑performance culture.
- Act as hiring manager and career coach, providing performance feedback, skill progression guidance, and career development support.
- Participate in project scheduling meetings to match staff assignments, validating progress and ensuring project objectives are met.
- Collaborate cross‑functionally to manage project staff resources and discipline budgets, driving continuous improvement in quality and design.
- Direct and oversee preparation of design documents, system layouts, detailed drawings, schematics, and specifications from concept through completion.
- Communicate with clients to coordinate requirements, maintain proactive communication throughout the project cycle, and resolve conflicts involving owners, architects, and contractors.
- Identify and share emerging technologies and industry trends, staying up to date on evolving codes and standards.
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related field (mechanical, electrical, fire protection, architectural) preferred; high school diploma or GED required.
- Minimum 12 years of progressive experience in engineering design, A&E industry, codes, and standards for complex building systems.
- Proficiency with Revit, Bluebeam Revu, Microsoft Office, and discipline‑specific engineering software.
- Working knowledge of earned value, contracts, construction processes, and methods.
- Ability to build trust‑based relationships, communicate effectively, and manage performance conversations constructively.
- High emotional intelligence, self‑starter, proactive, and capable of handling sensitive information.
- Professional Engineering (PE) license.
- Certifications such as BEMP, CPD, CDP, NICET, RCDD, or sustainability credentials (LEED, WELL).
- Experience as an Engineer of Record (EOR).
- Team leadership, hiring, coaching, resource management, and quality review.
- Design field management, drawing preparation, and shop drawing review.
- Client experience, site visits, and conflict resolution.
- Continuous learning, emerging technology sharing, and industry trend tracking.
- Professional Engineer and Engineer of Record responsibilities where applicable.
