Operations Assistant Store Manager in Training (OASM-IT) will gain hands‑on experience in the key responsibilities and functions of a Operations Assistant Store Manager at The Home Depot. The OAM‑IT will undergo a comprehensive training program that includes hands‑on experience, mentorship, and leadership development. Throughout the training, OAMs in Training become familiar with Manager on Duty duties and learn to manage associates, sales, customer service, safety standards, product availability, store presentation, and overall profitability.

They learn to oversee the smooth operation of key areas, including the Customer Service Desk, Receiving, Tool Rental, Order Fulfillment, Lot Loaders, and the Back Office. OASMs in Training collaborate with the Store Manager, Assistant Store Managers (ASMs), and operational field teams and develop strategies that boost sales, profitability, and departmental success. OASM‑ITs are expected to lead by example and uphold all lawful company policies.

During the up to six‑week training period you will learn to execute OASM key responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Training and Preparing for Assistant Manager Position – Participate in a structured training program covering all aspects of retail store management, including operations, customer service, sales & profitability, and company policies and procedures. Learn and demonstrate tactics to support key accountability: staffing and scheduling, identifying and resolving stock deficiencies, supervising associates in selling behaviors, resolving customer issues, and supporting service needs for both installed sales/special orders and product sales.

    Learn and demonstrate the performance management process, including associate performance review and disciplinary procedures. Complete all assigned training modules and assessments.
  • Customer Experience – Supervise associates in the selling effort, lead GET culture, set the example, drive customer service and associate engagement throughout the store, ensure customer concerns are solved effectively and take necessary actions to resolve situations promptly.
  • Sales and Productivity – Work with key partners to plan merchandise placement, signage, and support stock integrity through inventory management. Learn to maintain and operate all store equipment and systems and manage daily financial operations.
  • Operations Management – Perform Opening, Closing, MOD and other whole‑store focus responsibilities. Adhere to all company policies and procedures and hold associates accountable. Command store SOPs, especially regarding safety compliance, and learn to maintain process accuracy and mitigate shrink.
  • Safety – Ensure self and associates follow all safety and hazmat procedures and Safety Matters guidelines at all times.

Travel Requirements
  • Typically requires overnight travel less than 5 % of the time.
Physical Requirements
  • Must continuously stand or walk or regularly lift/handle/carry material or equipment of moderate weight (8–20 pounds).

  • Located in a comfortable indoor area; conditions could produce mild discomfort on occasion.

  • Must be eighteen years of age or older.
