Responsibilities

  • Successfully cultivate, solicit, and steward a portfolio of ~125-175 donors and prospects
  • Proactively identify and qualify new potential donors
  • Stay abreast of Southwestern Vermont Health Care's programs, initiatives, and needs, and identify prospective donors for those needs
  • Promptly document and record all activities as appropriate in fundraising database
  • In collaboration with the Director of Development and the Dartmouth Health Advancement Team, ensure timely wealth screening of prospects and grateful patients in order to develop and maintain a steady pipeline of new prospects
  • Meet defined donor and prospect interaction metrics that will be determined in conjunction with the Director of Development. Such metrics include, but are not limited to, number of prospect visits and number of gift solicitations
  • Working collaboratively with the Development and Marketing team to establish a compelling case for support of the organization and adapting messaging, as necessary
  • Assists with the management of Volunteer Leadership in conjunction with the Director of Development and Vice President of Corporate Development to increase awareness and gifts in the region
  • Assists with the coordination of annual giving programs and the development and implementation of new donor programs in conjunction with the Director of Development and the Vice President of Corporate Development
  • Staff key fundraising events
  • Understanding of planned giving operations and endowed gifts
  • In conjunction with the Director of Development and the Director of Marketing, communicate current initiatives to SVHC stakeholders at a variety of events and at individual donor meetings
  • Engage high-level volunteers to actively promote philanthropy in support of SVHC
  • Perform other related duties as assigned
Required Skills, Knowledge, And Abilities
  • Must be able to proactively and positively engage people in social settings to promote SVHC philanthropic values
  • Develop a deep knowledge of organizational goals and mission, in order to clearly communicate with prospects and donors
  • Ability to effectively build relationships with prospects/donors to maximize opportunities for giving
  • Experience with planning and managing events to further the mission of the organization
  • Passion for health care
  • Possess personal integrity and professional comportment necessary to effectively support and steward partnerships with staff, advanced practice providers, physicians and other clinical providers, philanthropists, volunteers, donors, and prospects
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to listen and interact effectively with prospects, donors, and Board members
  • Ability to function independently, yet work in a centralized development structure, working well in a team environment
  • Experience engaging internal and external stakeholders, ideally for a healthcare institution
  • Experience with and willingness to augment portfolio through prospecting and reinvigorating lapsed relationships
  • Possessing optimism, tenacity, excellent judgement and an outstanding work ethic
  • Superb communication skills, including written, oral, and active listening
  • Ability to travel both locally and work occasional evenings and weekends
  • Knowledge of healthcare preferred but not required
  • Ability to learn the healthcare industry and communicate effectively with a variety of stakeholders required
  • Knowledge of Grants and Foundation Giving a plus
  • Excellent computer skills, including competencies in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook) and a fundraising database, preferably Raiser’s Edge/NXT
  • Ability to effectively solicit a variety of gifts for the organization
Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree required
  • One - three years of successful fundraising experience required
  • Experience working in a development office environment with a proven track record of achievement in progressively increasing results in soliciting gifts
  • Familiarity with and commitment to best practices in fundraising programs
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills required
  • Exposure to cost effective events and programming for donors and prospects
  • Demonstrated experience implementing a multi-faceted fundraising program
  • Experience with Microsoft Office and Raiser’s Edge preferred
  • Familiarity with HIPAA privacy laws; important but not required
