Aboutthe Role
We are seeking an experienced HVAC Service Manager to lead our commercial HVAC service operations in the Benicia / San Francisco Bay Area market. This key leadership role is responsible for managing technicians, service operations, and customer relationships while ensuring safe, profitable, and high‑quality delivery of HVAC maintenance, repair, and retrofit work. The ideal candidate combines strong technical HVAC expertise with a people‑focused leadership style—someone who can hold teams accountable, build trust, and drive performance without losing sight of collaboration and communication.
This is a non‑union leadership position with competitive compensation aligned to Bay Area market conditions.
- Lead, coach, and manage HVAC service technicians, dispatch, and support staff.
- Set clear expectations, provide ongoing feedback, and address performance issues constructively.
- Foster a positive, accountable, and team‑oriented service culture.
- Partner with dispatch to align technician scheduling with skills, efficiency, and customer needs.
- Oversee day‑to‑day HVAC service operations, including maintenance, repairs, troubleshooting, and retrofits.
- Ensure work is completed safely, efficiently, and to quality standards.
- Review technician work for accuracy, code compliance, and customer satisfaction.
- Oversee service vehicles, tools, and equipment in accordance with company policy.
- Serve as a technical resource for HVAC systems, controls, and troubleshooting.
- Prepare, review, and approve HVAC service and retrofit estimates.
- Oversee larger service projects, startups, and commissioning activities.
- Ensure accurate scope, labor planning, and material usage.
- Monitor service department performance, labor utilization, and profitability.
- Review and approve payroll, service orders, and customer billing.
- Ensure timely material ordering and efficient job execution.
- Use internal systems to track work orders, expenses, and operational data.
- Act as a senior point of contact for customers, ensuring clear communication and issue resolution.
- Coordinate with vendors and suppliers on equipment, warranties, and operational matters.
- Collaborate with other department leaders to support company goals.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- 7+ years of commercial HVAC experience, with a strong service background.
- 3+ years of leadership experience (Service Manager, Supervisor, Lead Technician, or Service‑focused Project Manager).
- Proven ability to estimate, review, and approve HVAC service and retrofit work.
- Strong working knowledge of HVAC systems, troubleshooting, and preventive maintenance.
- Comfortable using service management systems, dispatch platforms, payroll, and expense tools.
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
- 10+ years of progressive HVAC experience.
- Experience managing service teams in a non‑union or mixed environment.
- Exposure to departmental budgeting, labor efficiency, or P&L responsibility.
- Background in service‑based mechanical contracting or retrofit‑focused operations.
- Firm, fair, and collaborative leadership approach.
- Strong communication and conflict‑management skills.
- Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Technically credible and comfortable working alongside field teams.
$155,000 – $170,000. The pay listed is the salary range for this position. Any specific offer will vary based on the successful applicant’s education, experience, skills, abilities, geographic location, and alignment with market data. You may be eligible to participate in a Company incentive or bonus program.
