Job Description & How to Apply Below

The City of Bend is accepting applications for one (1) regular, full-time Transportation Planner in the Transportation and Mobility Department. This position is non-represented and FLSA exempt (overtime ineligible). The Transportation Planner reports to the Mobility Programs Manager and works closely with engineering, planning, and operations staff to advance the City’s multimodal transportation and safety goals. This position is based at the City's new Public Works Campus in Northeast Bend, which opened in October 2025.

Step into a key role shaping how people move through Bend as a Transportation Planner. In this position, you’ll help advance safe, convenient, and accessible travel options for people of all ages and abilities. Your day might begin by reviewing multimodal data to identify safety trends, followed by collaborating with colleagues on a new school safety or active transportation campaign. You’ll balance analysis, planning, and public engagement as you help translate policy goals into real-world improvements that make it easier and safer to walk, bike, roll, or ride transit in Bend.

This role offers the opportunity to lead and support innovative mobility programs, including transportation safety initiatives, travel behavior change campaigns, and quick-build projects that improve multimodal connectivity. You’ll work with community partners, schools, businesses, and internal City teams to design and implement programs that respond to community needs while incorporating emerging best practices and data-driven decision‑making. From modernizing how the City collects transportation data to helping launch creative pilot projects, this position provides room to shape programs from the ground up.

Accepting this position means joining a collaborative team committed to improving quality of life and advancing the City’s Transportation System Plan. You’ll enjoy a dynamic blend of analytical work, creative problem‑solving, and community engagement, with the satisfaction of seeing your efforts directly support safer streets and more connected neighborhoods. As part of the Transportation and Mobility Department, your work will play an essential role in creating a transportation system that reflects Bend’s values, supports sustainability, and serves the community today and into the future.
