The Facilities Custodian plays an essential role in maintaining a clean, safe, and sanitary environment throughout the veterinary hospital. This position supports the health and well‑being of patients, clients, and staff by ensuring all areas—including clinical spaces—are properly cleaned, disinfected, and maintained. The custodian works closely with hospital leadership to uphold high standards of cleanliness required in a medical setting.
Facility Cleaning & Sanitation- Clean and disinfect exam rooms, treatment areas, surgical suites, kennels, and public spaces according to hospital protocols.
- Sweep, mop, vacuum, and maintain floors throughout the facility.
- Clean and restock restrooms, break rooms, and staff areas.
- Empty trash and biohazard waste receptacles following proper disposal procedures.
- Clean windows, walls, and high‑touch surfaces to maintain a sanitary environment.
- Follow all infection‑control procedures specific to veterinary medicine, including handling of animal waste, bodily fluids, and contaminated materials.
- Use appropriate cleaning agents and disinfectants safely and effectively.
- Report maintenance or safety concerns promptly to the Facilities Manager.
- Assist with maintaining compliance with OSHA, hospital safety standards, and sanitation guidelines.
- Perform light maintenance tasks such as replacing light bulbs, minor repairs, and basic equipment upkeep.
- Assist with laundry duties, including washing, drying, folding, and distributing hospital linens.
- Help maintain organized storage areas for cleaning supplies and equipment.
- Support seasonal or special cleaning projects as assigned.
- Ensure public areas such as the lobby, hallways, and entrances remain clean and welcoming.
- Assist with snow/ice removal, outdoor sweeping, or grounds upkeep as needed.
- Collaborate with hospital staff to prioritize cleaning needs during busy purposive periods or emergencies.
- Previous custodial or janitorial experience preferred; experience in a medical or veterinary setting is a plus.
- Ability to safely use cleaning chemicals, equipment, and protective gear.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to maintaining a sanitary environment.
- Ability to lift up inexptra up to 35 lbs and perform physical tasks such as bending, standing, and moving equipment.
