Hospitality and Community Assistant (HCA) (Part Time, Temporary Hourly, Non-Benefited)
The Hospitality & Community Assistant is an 11‑week student position with a live‑on requirement. The HCA will assist in both Summer Conference duties as well as Residence Life duties. For Residence Life, this includes facilitating a student community environment focused on success and learning and assisting the Residence Life Coordinator in implementing a modified community development model for summer residents.
For Summer Conferences the HCA will assist in all phases of operations including facility preparation, check‑in/out procedures, guest room changeovers and linen collection. The position serves as a campus and community resource to guests during registration, front desk, and day/night duty rotations. HCA ensures safety, security, and quality service through room inspections and adherence to housing policies. The position requires a dedicated time commitment and willingness to be available and accessible to residents and conference groups.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities Hospitality Guest Services- Assist conference guests by efficiently checking them in/out.
- Serve as a campus and community resourcestasy, and provide helpful, friendly assistance.
- Serve as a COCC advocate and represent the College in a professional manner.
- Assemble packets for incoming guests.
- Perform guest registration.
- Perform varied administrative roles including front desk rotation.
- Maintain the front desk/registration area in an organized and professional manner.
- Cleaning rooms prior to and after occupancy by a group or resident.
- Sweep, mop, and maintain floors.
- Minor maintenance such as replacing light bulbs and batteries for smoke detectors.
- Assisting personnel in larger building initiatives such as carpet and furniture cleaning.
- Empty large and small trash containers, remove miscellaneous debris.
- Provide peer‑leadership, serve as a role model, and maintain positive peer‑leader relationships for the summer resident community. Use good judgment and be consistent and considerate in all relationships with residents.
- Facilitate community development among roommates, suite mates, and floor members through effective availability, accessibility, interaction, outreach, and some programming.
- Serve as a role model among staff and maintain positive peer‑peer relationships.
- Participate in a duty rotation which will include coverage over College holidays.
- Serve on day and night duty and building round rotations. Follow appropriate policy adherence when assistinglege with guests and residents.
- Respond to or report inappropriate behavior from residents, staff or guests according to established procedures and protocols.
- Respond to, document and report emergencies according to established procedures and protocols.
- Report and document any violations within a timely manner, including the completion of an incident report.
- Maintain mailer confidentiality for residents, guests and staff.
- Communicate with the Residence Life Coordinator regarding any issue that is a resident welfare concern, residents who may be emotionally or physically at risk, or problems or situations that may require prolonged or professional attention (e.g., roommate conflicts, unusual absences, depression, other unusual behavior, etc.).
- Perform room and common area inspections pre‑ and post‑group arrival, including collection of linens, reporting repairs/concerns to appropriate staff and providing necessary follow‑up using established practice.
- Inspect meeting rooms prior to group use and confirm proper set‑up and equipment.
- Record all lost and found items and notify appropriate staff of valuable items.
- Be familiar with and effectively implement Housing Emergency Procedures, demonstrating calm leadership in an emergency should one arise.
- Other duties as assigned by Residence Life staff.
