Overview
The Primary Therapist provides individual, group, and family therapy to adults receiving substance use disorder treatment. This role serves as the clinical lead for an assigned caseload and is responsible for assessment, treatment planning, therapeutic intervention, documentation, and coordination of care. Primary Therapists work closely with medical, nursing, and clinical staff to deliver integrated, patient-centered treatment in an inpatient and/or residential setting.

Salary Range- Associate-Level Clinicians: $60,000 – $75,000 annually
- Fully Licensed Clinicians: $85,000 – $105,000 annually
Compensation is determined by licensure status, experience, scope of clinical responsibility, and performance. Associate-level clinicians receive structured supervision and are eligible for salary adjustment upon attainment of full licensure, subject to role expectations and organizational needs.

- Conduct comprehensive biopsychosocial assessments and develop individualized treatment plans.
- Provide weekly individual therapy to all clients on caseload and facilitate group and family therapy as clinically indicated.
- Utilize evidence-based modalities including Motivational Interviewing (MI), CBT, DBT, and trauma-informed approaches.
- Assess regularly for crises, safety concerns, and suicidality, and provide appropriate intervention.
- Develop individualized therapeutic assignments and interventions to support insight, skill-building, and behavior change.
- Assist in the development and implementation of discharge and aftercare plans, including referrals to community resources and continuing care providers.
- Use evidence-based tools and outcome measures to inform treatment planning and clinical decision-making.
- Maintain primary clinical responsibility for an assigned caseload, including daily client check-ins when on site.
- Participate actively in weekly treatment team meetings, case conferences, and clinical meetings.
- Collaborate with medical, nursing, and clinical staff to provide coordinated, holistic care.
- Communicate and coordinate care with external providers and agencies as appropriate and clinically indicated.
- Maintain timely, accurate, and compliant clinical documentation in accordance with facility policy, regulatory requirements, and payer standards.
- Documentation expectation is high-volume AND high-quality.
- Ensure all documentation is completed accurately and on time, in alignment with internal policies and regulatory guidelines.
- Maintain appropriate therapeutic boundaries and adhere to ethical standards at all times.
- Participate in required training, supervision, and clinical development under the direction of the Clinical Director.
- Master’s degree in counseling, social work, psychology, or a related behavioral health field.
- Active clinical licensure in good standing (LPC, LCSW, LMFT), or associate licensure under supervision.
- Experience in substance use disorder treatment and/or mental health settings preferred.
- Strong working knowledge of evidence-based therapeutic approaches.
- Ability to manage a caseload in a structured, fast-paced clinical environment.
- Commitment to ethical practice, professionalism, and collaborative care.
- Must maintain active licensure, required CEUs, and professional liability insurance throughout employment.
- Maintain up to date TB record.
- No misuse of alcohol or other drugs while employed by RTB. You may be subject to drug screenings (random and for cause) while employed at RTB.
