The Veterinary Nocturnist provides dedicated overnight medical care, ensuring continuous monitoring, treatment, and support for hospitalized patients while responding to urgent cases that arise outside daytime hours. This role is ideal for a veterinarian who excels in independent decision‑making, and values being the steady presence that keeps the hospital running smoothly through the night.
Overnight Patient Care- Monitor and manage hospitalized patients, including administering treatments, reassessing conditions, and adjusting care plans as needed.
- Perform overnight rounds and maintain detailed, accurate medical records.
- Ensure patient comfort, pain control, and stability throughout the night.
- Triage and manage urgent cases that present during overnight hours.
- Stabilize patients until daytime emergency or specialty teams arrive.
- Perform emergency procedures such as wound care, fluid therapy, pain management, and stabilization for trauma or acute illness.
- Provide thorough case handoffs to the daytime medical team, ensuring seamless continuity of care.
- Communicate with clients when necessary, offering updates, treatment explanations, and compassionate guidance.
- Collaborate with overnight technicians and support staff to maintain efficient workflow and high‑quality patient care.
- Support overnight staff with medical oversight, mentorship, and guidance.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe hospital environment.
- Assist with diagnostic interpretation, including radiographs, laboratory results, and monitoring data.
