The Medical Assistant (MA) position is integrated throughout St. Charles Health System, covering practices in three Central Oregon counties and numerous specialties including orthopedics, family care, internal medicine, obstetrics & gynecology, pediatrics, urgent care, cardiology, pulmonology, rheumatology, general surgery, cancer care, behavioral health, and sleep medicine. MAs collaborate with physicians and non‑clinical staff to provide comprehensive and compassionate health care to our community.
Position OverviewThe Medical Assistant will manage the daily patient flow for each physician they support. They must use triage skills to gather information that enables appropriate patient health assessments and anticipate physicians’ needs related to patient care. This position does not manage other caregivers.
Essential Functions And Duties- Escort patients to exam rooms and prepare for physician assessment.
- Record and maintain patient medical data in the medical chart.
- Assist physicians with answering phone requests from patients or other medical professionals.
- Perform physician‑requested ancillary or surgical procedures (excludes IV medication administration).
- Maintain equipment, instruments, and supply inventory levels.
- Support the organization’s vision, mission, and values.

- Ensure a safe environment for caregivers, patients, and guests.
- Conduct all activities with professionalism, confidentiality, and compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
- Deliver customer service and patient care promptly and accurately.
- Perform additional duties of similar complexity as required.
- Required: High school diploma or GED.
- Preferred: Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant program.
- Required: Current MA Certification from AMT, NCCT, AAMA, NAHP, NHA, or equivalent (Oregon LPN, RN, EMT, etc.)
- Required: AHA Basic Life Support for Healthcare Provider certification.
- Will be required to travel to business functions, trainings, and all St. Charles Health System worksites.
- Preferred: Current American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA) certification.
- Required: Basic knowledge of ICD-10, CM/CPT/HCPCS coding conventions; working knowledge of medical practice management information systems; basic knowledge of physician office documentation standards; must maintain confidentiality and meet HIPAA requirements.
- Candidates with NHA certification based on experience, rather than a program graduate, must have one (1) year of experience.
