Departmental SummaryThe Medical Assistant (MA) position is integrated throughout St. Charles Health System encompassing practices in three Central Oregon counties and numerous specialties, including orthopedic services, family care, internal medicine, obstetrics and gynecology, pediatrics, immediate/urgent care, cardiology, pulmonology, rheumatology, general surgery, cancer care, behavioral health, and sleep medicine. MAs collaborate with physicians and non‑clinical staff to provide comprehensive and compassionate health care.
Position OverviewThe Medical Assistant will be responsible for daily patient flow for each respective physician, using triage skills to gather information for patient health assessments and to anticipate physicians’ needs.
Essential Functions And Duties- Escort patients to exam rooms and prepare for physician assessment.
- Record and maintain patients’ medical data in the chart.
- Assist physicians with answering phone requests from patients and other medical professionals.
- Perform specified physician‑requested ancillary or surgical patient procedures (excluding IV medication).
- Maintain equipment and instrument inventory levels.
- Support the organization’s vision, mission, and values.
- Champion Lean principles and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Provide a safe environment for caregivers, patients, and guests.
- Conduct all activities with the highest standards of professionalism and confidentiality.
- Comply with all applicable laws, regulations, policies, and procedures, and report known or suspected violations.
- Deliver customer service and patient care that is timely, efficient, and accurate.
- Perform additional duties of similar complexity as required or assigned.
- Required: High school diploma or GED.
- Preferred: Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant program.
- Required: Current MA Certification from one of the following: AMT, NCCT, AAMA, NAHP, NHA, or licensure as an intermediate or paramedic level EMT, Oregon LPN, Oregon RN; AHA Basic Life Support for Healthcare Provider certification; ability to travel to business functions / trainings / meetings and all St. Charles Health System worksites.
- Preferred: Current AAMA certification.
- Required: Basic knowledge of ICD‑10, CM/CPT/HCPCS coding conventions and procedures; working knowledge of medical practice management information systems; basic knowledge of physician office documentation standards; must meet all HIPAA requirements. Candidates with NHA certification that qualified due to work experience rather than graduation from an accredited Medical Assisting Program will be required to have one year of experience in Medical Assisting.
