Primary Purpose
Provide instruction in Psychology as a member of an instructional team of full and part-time instructors, direct student discussion, select learning experiences appropriate for meeting objectives, and evaluate student performance in the classroom.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Provide instruction in Psychology. Courses are taught in the classroom, remote, or online delivery mode using established course outcomes. Teaching assignments may include courses taught during the day and/or evening, classes taught at the Bend or branch campuses (Redmond, Madras, Prineville), or by interactive video chat technology.
- Cooperate with faculty and accept direction from assigned Department Chair in developing and implementing syllabi, teaching methods, assignments, and standards to achieve course specific and program-wide student learned outcomes and assessment goals.
- Act as a resource person for students.
- Perform other essential duties and tasks specific to each location, as assigned.

Individuals must possess these knowledge, skills and abilities or be able to explain and demonstrate that the individual can perform the duties and responsibilities of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation, using some other combination of skills and abilities. - Thorough knowledge of field of Psychology.
- Knowledge of teaching and instruction of various audiences and group dynamics.
- Visual ability, corrected, to enable instructor to observe, direct, and supervise students in classroom situations.
- Ability to operate or oversee the operation of computers, video chat technology (e.g., Zoom) and familiarity with or willingness to learn the learning management system (LMS) used at COCC.
- Ability to orally communicate effectively with others, using the English language, with or without the use of an interpreter.
- Ability to communicate effectively in writing, using the English language, with or without the use of auxiliary aids or services.
- Ability to review, understand and apply concepts presented in training programs, conferences, and/or professional literature.
- Ability to work with other faculty and COCC staff at all levels.
- Willingness to travel and/or teach at various hours and locations, as required.
- Ability to work cooperatively with and contribute to a diverse workplace through ideas or experience.
- The ability to work well independently and self‑monitor in order to recognize the link between the instructor’s classroom behaviors and the student success theories and skills begin taught.
- Knowledge of current academic models of student success and retention.
Ergonomic Requirements
Ability to work in classroom and office environments using computers, white boards, projectors, and other basic office equipment. All individuals are required to be able to perform the essential functions with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Master’s Degree in Psychology or closely related discipline.
