Hourly rate: $30/hour

Primary

Purpose:

The Structure Fire Science Program seeks a qualified individual to serve as an Instructional Assistant. Assistants will assist the primary course instructor in the education of students in the lab experience.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Assist during Structure Fire Science program course labs under the direction of the primary instructor: answer student questions regarding lab exercises, provide instruction in lab procedures, monitor safety during labs requiring use of hand tools or power equipment, administer lab quizzes, grade lab quizzes or assignments.
  • Assist in the development of lab and lecture exercises and curriculum under direction of the primary instructor.
  • Conduct layout of field lab exercises, checkout and use of equipment as needed. Perform minor maintenance/cleaning of lab equipment in the tool room or field.
  • Conduct data entry and analysis of lab data.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Thorough knowledge in the field of Structure Fire at the technician level.
  • Knowledge of teaching and instruction of various audiences and group dynamics.
  • Visual ability, corrected, to observe, direct, and supervise students.
  • Familiarity with hand and power tools used in structure fire.
  • Familiarity with, and ability to operate or oversee the operation of audio-visual equipment.
  • Ability to operate computers and other written materials.
  • Oral communication skills in English.
  • Written communication skills in English.
  • Ability to review, understand, and apply concepts presented in training programs, conferences, and professional literature.
  • Ability to work with Forestry Program Director, faculty, Instructional Dean and other COCC staff at all levels.
  • Willingness to travel and/or teach at various hours and locations, as required.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with and contribute to a diverse workplace through ideas or experience.
Ergonomic Requirements

Able to complete the essential job functions listed above with or without reasonable accommodation. Work is typically performed standing. Must be able to safely lift 50 pounds.

Education
  • High School diploma or GED
Experience
  • One year of coursework in Structure Fire Science or related field
Preferred Qualifications Education
  • AAS degree in Structure Fire Science or related field.
Experience
  • Teaching experience in a Community College setting preferred.
Licenses and Certifications
  • Include relevant qualification and certificate documentation.
