Job SummaryTelework:
This position may have the flexibility to work a hybrid schedule or work in the office once the probationary period has been completed. The incumbent will be required to make a telework arrangement with their supervisor. The incumbent will be expected to work in the office as determined by policy and discussion with their supervisor.
This position will perform moderately difficult para‑engineering duties in the operation of soils and pavement sampling equipment to obtain soils, rock and pavement samples and groundwater information. Also includes processing soils data to be used in roadway and foundation design. Duties include but are not limited to:
- Completes the set‑up and operates the soils sampling and testing equipment.
- Maintains the soils sampling and testing equipment so that it stays in good working order.
- Obtains field soils data and enters this information into computer software programs.
- Assists in completion of field in situ tests of soil strengths for foundation design.
- Performs operational needs such as traffic control support, assists in the field staking of sampling locations or acquiring field supplies.
- Records digital and handwritten field data and sampling information, then downloads, organizes and archives this information.
- Creates basic soils profiles.
- Assists with the technical certification program training for agency and external personnel.
This position will also perform snow and ice duties. Some specific duties include but are not limited to:
- Maintains roadways for snow and ice control
- Prepares and inspects winter equipment
- Performs preseason snow route inspection and performs post storm cleanup
- Performs winter stockpile setup and transfer of anti‑icing and de‑icing chemicals
- Performs all work related to installing, repairing, maintaining, and removing snow fences; replacing mailboxes
- Maintains documentation on snow and ice data for accurate reporting of inventory and resource management
