Job Summary

The Internal Medicine Nurse Practitioner (NP) provides advanced nursing care to adult patients with acute, chronic, and complex medical conditions. Working in collaboration with physicians and healthcare teams, the NP performs assessments, diagnoses, develops and implements treatment plans, and manages patient care to promote optimal health outcomes.

Responsibilities
  • Provides advanced nursing care to adult patients with acute, chronic, and complex medical conditions.
  • Collaborates with physicians and healthcare teams to assess, diagnose, develop and implement treatment plans, and manage patient care to promote optimal health outcomes.
  • Conducts thorough patient histories and physical examinations.
  • Diagnoses and manages acute and chronic illnesses such as hypertension, diabetes, COPD, heart disease, and other internal medicine conditions.
  • Orders, interprets, and acts on diagnostic tests including labs, imaging, and screenings.
  • Develops and implements individualized treatment plans, including prescribing medications and therapies in accordance with state laws and organizational policies.
  • Provides patient education on disease prevention, health promotion, and management of chronic conditions.
  • Monitors and evaluates patient progress and response to treatment, adjusting plans as necessary.
  • Collaborates with physicians, specialists, and other healthcare providers to coordinate care.
  • Documents all patient encounters, treatments, and progress notes accurately in the electronic health record (EHR).
  • Participates in quality improvement initiatives and stays current with evidence‑based practices in internal medicine.
  • Maintains compliance with regulatory and organizational standards for patient care.
Qualifications
  • Master’s or Doctorate degree from an accredited Nurse Practitioner program.
  • If APRN was licensed prior to August 1, 1995, master’s degree in nursing is preferred.
  • Experience in internal medicine or related adult primary care setting preferred.
  • Current licensure as a Registered Nurse and Nurse Practitioner in each state of practice.
  • Current Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) permit to prescribe controlled substances in each state of practice.
  • State Controlled Substance License (if required by State).
  • National board certification as a Family (FNP-BC) or (FNP–C), Adult‑Gerontology Primary Care (AGPCNP-BC), Adult (ANP-C), or additional certifications requiring approval from a market executive leader.
  • Obtains and subsequently maintains required specific competencies and certifications as outlined on privilege form.
