Environmental Services Technician - Bemidji Medical Center

Job Summary

This position is located at Bemidji Medical Center in Bemidji, MN. The Environmental Services Technician is responsible for maintaining a safe and sanitary environment in patient rooms and assigned areas for Sanford Health patients, visitors, and associates by following infection control, safety, and procedural guidelines.

Core tasks include emptying waste baskets, sweeping, scrubbing, waxing, polishing floors, and using brooms, mops, or powered scrubbing and waxing machines. The technician must demonstrate knowledge of housekeeping processes, tools, and techniques in a healthcare environment and consistently provide a clean, sterile environment for patients and staff. The role may involve cleaning patient rooms, hallways, lobbies, lounges, restrooms, corridors, elevators, stairways, locker rooms, and other work areas to meet health standards.

The technician must wear the proper protective equipment, keep storage, equipment, and carts well-stocked, clean, and tidy, and use pagers and other technology appropriately. They may assist in laundry areas and use Sanford technology applications where required.

Physical activities include considerable use of arms and legs and movement of the whole body (climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, twisting, squatting, handling materials). The technician must lift or move up to 40–50 pounds and push/pull varied weight limits on flat surfaces or up/down ramps, and will spend the majority of the shift on their feet. The position may require overtime, call, backup call, nights, days, weekends, and holidays depending on patient needs.

• Must complete the department’s annual continuing education, including departmental meetings, safety education, and mandatory in‑services.
• Must have knowledge of general day‑to‑day housekeeping tasks in each of the various departments/areas of the facility.
• Must follow the cleaning policy and procedure for each department and use cleaning/sanitation chemicals according to guidelines.
