Overview
Duties and Responsibilities: This position will be responsible for a variety of tasks including receiving and responding to public complaints, investigations, issuance of citations, patrolling assigned areas to capture stray animals, cleaning and maintaining kennel areas, feeding animals, and operating animal control equipment. Other duties may be assigned. This position includes some weekends and some holidays and assigned after hours on call.
This position reports to the Animal Services Director.
- Receive and respond to public complaints, conduct investigations, issue citations, patrol assigned areas to capture stray animals, clean and maintain kennel areas, feed animals, and operate animal control equipment.
- Other duties may be assigned.
- Includes some weekends and some holidays and assigned after-hours on call.
- Reports to the Animal Services Director.
- Knowledge of animal behavior, animal control laws, and animal handling skills.
- Skill in driving an animal control vehicle and handling of animal control equipment.
- Valid driver’s license required.
- Good public communication skills, the ability to work independently, and also be a team player.
- Extensive knowledge of animals, especially dogs and cats.
- Experience in a related position is a plus.
- Residency in Boone County is preferred but not required.
- Extensive physical demands; frequent standing and walking, use of hands.
- Must have the ability to lift a minimum of 50 pounds; may be required to lift and/or move up to 100 pounds occasionally.
- A combination of office, kennel, and field work.
- Exposure to elements such as heat, cold, dampness, fumes, dust, or noise may occur.
- Candidates must possess a high school diploma or GED.
- Experience in an animal-related field or law enforcement is preferred but not required.
This position is 40 hours per week with a starting wage of $18.00-$20.00 per hour, depending on qualifications.
