Role Description

This is a full-time on-site role for a Controller at Monteith Abstract & Title Company, located in Belton, TX. The Controller oversees the financial operations of the escrow department, ensuring accurate and compliant handling of escrow funds. This role involves managing financial transactions, maintaining escrow accounts, preparing financial reports, and ensuring regulatory compliance. The Controller oversees all financial operations, ensuring that both our operational and escrow accounts are managed with 100% accuracy and in strict accordance with TDI regulations.

The controller is responsible for monthly, quarterly, and yearly financials and reporting for the company. A controller plays a vital role in ensuring the financial integrity and compliance of escrow transactions, contributing to the overall success and efficiency of the accounting department.

  • TDI Compliance & Reporting:
    * Manage and file the T-S5 (Quarterly Tax Report) and T-S1 (Unencumbered Assets Certification).
  • Ensure the Solvency Account is funded and maintained per Texas Insurance Code §.
  • Prepare the company for annual TDI audits and the "Experience Stat" reporting due each May.
  • Texas Franchise Tax:
    Calculate and file the annual Margin Tax, selecting the most advantageous deduction method for the company's specific revenue model.
  • Handle 1099 processing, year-end procedures, and enforce internal controls and tax regulations.
  • Oversight of all financial operations, including billing, accounts receivable/payable, general ledger, cost accounting, and revenue recognition.
  • Prepare financial statements and oversee budgeting and forecasting to facilitate decision-making, including individual branch profit and loss statements and operating expenses.
  • Timely publication of monthly financial statements.
  • Ensures compliance with governmental accounting regulations and generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
  • Execute end-to-end accounting processes such as month-end accruals, GL reconciliation, journal entries, invoicing, and account reconciliation for monthly and annual closing.
  • Analyze accounting information to detect and rectify inaccuracies or imbalances, maintaining accurate records within the accounting system.
  • Send employees monthly American Express statements and reconcile the AMEX account monthly.
  • Pay vendors, taxes, and insurance.
  • Compile tax information for CPA.
  • Fund and enter the company payroll information.
  • Check month end numbers and closing reports monthly.
  • Manage Escrow Officer compliance for the company and update bonds as needed.
  • Adheres to company policies and guidelines.
  • Undertake various job-related tasks as assigned, demonstrating flexibility and willingness to support the team’s objectives.
