The City of Beloit Public Works Department has an exciting career opportunity in the Parks and Recreation Division as the Parks/Forestry Supervisor. This position is responsible for overseeing the City’s park system and urban forest to ensure safe, well-maintained, and aesthetically pleasing public spaces. This includes managing daily maintenance of parks, trails, and green spaces, as well as all aspects of urban forestry operations, such as tree pruning, trimming, removals, and planting.

The Parks/Forestry Supervisor oversees and directs staff, coordinates projects, manages resources and equipment, and ensures compliance with safety standards and environmental regulations. The position also involves budget oversight, record-keeping, planning, and community engagement, including responding to various inquiries.

The candidate we are seeking will require the ability for independent judgment in planning, prioritizing, and problem-solving, and is reviewed through reports, observation, and periodic discussions. Other duties may be assigned.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
  • A valid driver s license and satisfactory driving record.
  • Associate’s Degree from an accredited college or university in Forestry, Horticulture, Environmental Studies, Urban Planning, Public Administration, or a closely related field.
  • Two (2) years of progressively responsible experience in parks management, forestry, grounds maintenance, or related public works operations.
  • A commercial driver’s license (CDL) - Class A or B is preferred.
  • ISA Certified Arborist Certification preferred.
  • Winter Maintenance Supervisor Certificate from the American Public Works Association or ability to obtain within one year of hire.
  • Certified in First Aid and CPR or ability to obtain certification within one year of employment.
  • FEMA Emergency Management Trainings IS-100, IS-200, IS-700, IS-800, ICS-300, ICS-400 or ability to obtain within one year of hire.
  • Other combinations of education, training, and/or experience which demonstrate the possession of the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the duties of this position will also be considered.
