Position: X-Ray Technologist, Ambulatory Surgery Center (PRN)

The X-Ray Technologist, ASC(PRN) is responsible for using imaging equipment to produce x-ray images of the patient's anatomy as requested by the physician. The X-Ray Technologist’s main priority is to ensure that the patient is safe throughout the image taking process and in accordance with applicable policies and procedures, standard of care, and in accordance with state certification and regulations.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Uses radiation safety measures and protection devices to comply with government regulations and to ensure safety of patients and staff
  • Determines patients' X-ray needs by taking instructions from physicians
  • Places and sets up proper X-ray equipment (C-arm, O-arm, etc.) in operating rooms, ensuring all necessary equipment is ready
  • Positions imaging equipment and adjust controls to set exposure time and distance, according to specification of examination; takes radiographic x-ray images for patients
  • Maintains daily and monthly quality control for C-arm and/or O-arm
  • Reviews and evaluates computer-generated information to determine if images are satisfactory for diagnostic and implant placement purposes
  • Sends the X-ray images to the provider and to outside facilities, if necessary, burn images, and uploads from and to the PAC’s system
  • Assists with coordination of annual physicist visit and X-ray apron testing, maintains and orders dosimeters badges, reports dosimetry levels to staff and physicians, IEMA or DSPS reviews, maintains lead integrity and reports any discrepancies to manager
  • Aids physicians or other technologists in the performance of more complex procedures as needed
  • Adjusts priorities and participates in resolving problems as appropriate
  • Completes quality control activities, monitors equipment operation, and reports malfunctioning equipment to supervisor or service department
  • Assists with turnover of Operating Rooms between cases and necessary terminal cleaning.
  • Cleans the pre-operative and PACU patient care rooms between patients and prepares room for next patients
  • Assists surgery staff with the transport of patients, movement to the surgical bed, positioning the patient, and prepping of the patient
  • Assists nurse with ambulating patients and assisting patients out of facility
  • Assists SPD with wrapping, peel packing, and checking in new equipment
  • Assists in restocking supplies in all areas
  • Completes daily, weekly, and monthly duties
  • Assists anesthesia with stocking of supply carts, disinfecting machines and supply carts, helps maintain gas machine with appropriate supplies
  • Assists with the training of new employees or students, and provides input to supervisors regarding training performance and job specific competencies
  • Maintain yearly required training including but not limited to:
    • Infection Control/OSHA
    • TB testing
    • All codes
    • Location of SDS
    • BLS certification
