Position: Sr Safety Administrator (Underground)

As the Sr Safety Administrator (Underground), you will design, develop, implement, and oversee the organization’s health and safety programs, policies, and procedures to safeguard associates and surrounding communities. You will ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, ADA, DOL, and DOT regulations, partner with Field Services & Outside Plant Construction groups, and serve as the subject‑matter expert on current safety training requirements for field associates.

Responsibilities
  • Plan, manage, develop, and implement best‑practice safety programs, including written safety programs, proactive agenda topics for team meetings, and coordination of safety training for field associates such as heat exposure and fall protection.
  • Conduct safety audits and inspections to identify hazards and unsafe practices, research, select, and standardize new safety equipment, and monitor hazardous waste control and disposal activities.
  • Manage the company’s DOT program in conjunction with the TDS Fleet Department, including coordination of DOT driver requirements through an approved vendor.
  • Review injury/illness and non‑injury incident reports to identify root causes, recommend solutions, and conduct investigations of accidents with specialists and health and safety authorities.
  • Maintain emergency action plans and ensure an inventory of all safety‑related items by facility location.
  • Update and manage safety policies within the Safety Handbook to comply with OSHA, EPA, and applicable regulations, and monitor regulatory changes.
  • Manage office ergonomics assessments, accommodation review processes, and support the Leave Administration Team with lost‑time injuries and workers’ compensation claims.
  • Coordinate office ergonomics assessments and accommodation review processes. Meet with associates to assess workstation concerns and make recommendations, including supporting the medical accommodation process.
Qualifications

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree or 4+ years of professional work experience.
  • 2+ years of experience in a safety‑sensitive position or safety and security program management.
  • Valid driver’s license.
Other Qualifications
  • Ability to travel up to 50% of the time.
  • Horizontal directional drilling experience preferred.
  • Supervisory experience preferred.
  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or commitment to obtain the same.
  • Working knowledge of OSHA, EPA, First Aid, and Ergonomics.
  • A current CDL is preferred.
  • Bachelor’s degree in a safety science‑related discipline is a plus.
  • Facilities background a plus.
  • Strong presentation and communication skills.
  • Ability to make difficult decisions concerning complex issues.
  • Ability to organize priorities to achieve maximum performance efficiently.
  • Ability to multi‑task a variety of projects with diverse groups.
Physical Demands and Work Environment

While performing the duties of this job, the associate routinely uses hands to finger, handle, or feel and talk or hear. The associate frequently stands, walks, stoops, kneels, crouches, or crawls, climbs poles, ladders, towers or other structures, and may sit, reach with arms, climb, or balance. The job requires lifting and moving up to 50 pounds frequently and occasionally up to more than 100 pounds.

Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
