Your PurposeAs Head of Product for Discover Africa Safaris, you are accountable for the strategic ownership, performance, and evolution of our luxury safari product portfolio across Southern and East Africa.
You play a critical role in driving business growth by safeguarding product quality, building and maintaining strong supplier partnerships, securing competitive commercial agreements, and ensuring our Sales and Marketing teams are fully enabled with the right product knowledge, tools, and content.
You oversee the end-to-end product lifecycle, from supplier relationships and negotiations through to tour development, product training, and the accuracy and consistency of product information across systems, the website, and all marketing channels.
Your Core Responsibilities Supplier Relationships & Commercial Performance- Build and strengthen long-term relationships with key suppliers and partners
- Source and onboard new products and destinations aligned to company strategy
- Negotiate rates, allocations, tactical offers, and value-added inclusions
- Secure strong payment terms to support healthy cash flow
- Represent the business at trade shows and industry events
- Develop, maintain, and refine tours and itineraries in line with brand standards and market demand
- Stay up to date with travel trends and competitor movements
- Manage seasonal rate requests and ensure timely, accurate system and website updates
- Own product positioning and prioritisation across marketing channels
- Track and analyse SAT and other DMO marketing strategies to proactively identify opportunities for destination and product development
- Plan and deliver ongoing product training for Sales and Marketing teams
- Own product onboarding for new hires and ongoing capability building for consultants
- Plan and coordinate educational trips and site visits
- Act as the internal product specialist, supporting complex quotes and product-fit decisions
- Provide Marketing with product priorities, promotions, and content direction
- Support Finance with supplier- and product-related queries
- Ensure product accuracy and consistency across Travelyst, internal systems, and customer-facing platforms
- Run the product function with a strong sense of accountability and ownership
- Support the growth, development, and performance of the product team
- Contribute to continuous improvement of systems, processes, and ways of working
- 5+ years’ experience in a senior product role within luxury travel, focused on Southern and/or East Africa
- Tertiary qualification in Travel and Tourism
- Extensive destination and lodge product knowledge
- Established relationships with regional suppliers
- Strong commercial and negotiation skills with a proven track record
- Experience working with systems such as Travelyst, CRM platforms, and Google Workspace
- Excellent communication, organisational, and stakeholder management skills
- Proven ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
- A genuine passion for Africa and safari travel
