Position: Captain (T/V Miss Molly)

SUMMARY

Northline Seafoods is seeking a highly capable and experienced Tender Captain to lead operations onboard a strategically positioned fish tender and fleet support barge in Bristol Bay. The vessel, T/V Miss Molly, serves as a central hub for fleet support, buying salmon, and providing key logistical services throughout the peak fishing season.

The Tender Captain works closely with the tug crew to ensure safe anchoring, proper placement, and efficient fleet access. Additional responsibilities include managing fish offloads and tickets, overseeing quality control protocols, maintaining accurate inventory, managing fleet food and fuel sales, and providing frontline operational support to Northline’s fishing fleet.

Travel

Requirement:

As of May 7, 2025, a REAL
-compliant identification is required for domestic air travel, including flights to Alaska. Candidates must meet this requirement prior to hire.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES
  • Vessel Operations & Safety
    • Works closely with the tug captain to ensure safe anchoring, proper placement, and efficient fleet access
    • Maintain compliance with Coast Guard and company safety protocols
    • Conduct daily safety checks and maintain readiness for emergency situations
  • Fleet Support & Customer Service
    • Serve as the primary point of contact for all fleet interactions at the tender
    • Deliver clear, respectful communication to fishermen and support staff
    • Coordinate timely offload of salmon and distribution of ice and other supplies
    • Troubleshoot fleet needs in coordination with Fleet Management and Logistics teams
  • Fish Handling & Quality Control
    • Oversee fish offload and weighing in accordance with company SOPs
    • Enforce quality standards and ensure all fish are handled with care from delivery to storage
    • Communicate with Fleet Management about any deviations from quality protocols
  • Crew Leadership & Management
    • Supervise and lead a small onboard crew, ensuring strong performance, morale, and accountability
    • Assign and oversee daily duties including equipment management, offload operations, sanitation, and inventory tracking
    • Train crew on quality fish handling, safety procedures, and company standards
  • Inventory & Reporting
    • Generate accurate fish tickets, food and fuel sales receipts, and inventory records
    • Submit daily reports to Operations and Fleet Management teams
    • Work closely with Fleet Management, company QA/QC, and Operations staff to align data with operational needs
  • Other duties as assigned.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • 18+ years old.
  • Authorized to work in the U.S.
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience as a Tender Captain or senior crew member in Alaska fisheries
  • Must be able to work long hours in a fast-paced, remote, and demanding environment.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Strong knowledge of Bristol Bay fishing operations, including fish quality standards.
  • Proven leadership and crew management skills.
  • Excellent communication skills—professional, clear, and composed under pressure.
  • Familiarity with ice systems, offload equipment, and fish handling protocols.
  • Strong commitment to safety, quality, and service.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS & WORK ENVIRONMENT

This job operates primarily on a barge at sea in Bristol Bay, AK and possibly at the dock in Bellingham, WA. This role routinely uses equipment common in transferring and moving cargo, including cranes, lines, slings, spreader bars, etc. Additionally, this position will require knowledge of fish purchasing operations. Employee must be able stand, walk and generally navigate a wet and cold barge environment for long periods of time.
