RN - Special Care Nursery/NICU, 0.9 FTE, Nights
Peace Health is seeking an RN - Special Care Nursery for a full‑time, 0.90 FTE, night position. This Level 2 Nursery (not a full NICU) cares for babies 32 weeks and up. Salary range: $44.34–$80.37 per hour, depending on education, training, experience, collective bargaining agreement, and other factors.
Hiring bonus and relocation assistance may be available. This position is represented by a collective bargaining agreement.
Job Summary
Provides professional nursing direct patient care in compliance with professional practice and unit standards, promoting a collaborative, interdisciplinary approach toward patients, families, and the care delivery team.
Essential Functions
- Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care needs.
- Document patient care in the healthcare record per established standards.
- Direct and delegate care to team members according to their education, credentials, and demonstrated competence.
- Maintain professional effectiveness through education and development.
- Participate in development and maintenance of hospital policies, procedures, and quality improvement, safety, environmental, and infection prevention programs.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Cross‑train into Postpartum and Pediatric units required.
Qualifications
- Education: Required:
Degree from an accredited School of Nursing. Preferred:
Bachelor of Science in Nursing, Specialty certification. - Experience: Required:
Minimum one year acute care neonatal experience or six months at a level 3 NICU or higher; demonstrated competence in area of expertise. Neonatal nursing experience in NICU preferred. Additional experience in inpatient women's and children's services line preferred. - Credentials: Required:
Registered Nurse;
Basic Life Support upon hire; NRP within six months of hire. - Skills: Demonstrated knowledge of age‑specific principles of growth and development, ability to promote positive interpersonal relationships and patient/family‑centered work environment, basic computer skills, and support and interpretation of medical center philosophy, policy, and procedures.
Working Conditions
- Lifting: patient handling no greater than 35 lbs without assistive equipment; fine motor skills; push/pull up to 45 lbs; hands‑on CPR at least 20 mins using 100‑125 lbs of force (rare). Frequent sitting, bending/stooping/squatting/reaching/kneeling, and non‑patient lifting up to 20 lbs occasionally and 5 lbs frequently.
- Environmental: exposure to biohazard, body fluids, airborne particles; must complete tasks in a noisy environment.
- Mental/Visual: vision and hearing within normal limits; ability to communicate accurately.
