Description of dutiesSPIE is seeking a strategic, business minded Manager, Education Services to lead and expand our global education portfolio. This is a high impact role for someone who sees education as both a mission driven imperative and a self sustaining business—with real ownership over strategy, financial performance, and innovation.
You’ll shape how thousands of optics and photonics professionals worldwide access high quality learning—while building a portfolio that is financially resilient, market responsive, and future focused.
What you’ll do- Own the end to end strategy for SPIE’s education portfolio, from concept to launch to long?term performance
- Build and scale new courses and learning experiences—in person and online that meet the evolving needs of the global optics and photonics community
- Manage financial performance, including budgets, pricing models, KPIs, and revenue growth
- Use data and market insightto decide what to scale, redesign, or sunset
- Identify new delivery models, partnerships, and revenue opportunities to expand reach and impact
- Collaborate cross functionally with Marketing, Meetings, and volunteer leaders to deliver cohesive, high quality programs
- Lead and develop staff; oversee systems, platforms, vendors, and learning infrastructure
- Provide onsite leadership at SPIE conferences and eventsas needed
- Competitive wages, annual discretionary bonus. Pay range depending on experience is $88,903 to $128,899/year.

- Defined retirement contribution: SPIE provides an automatic 5% contribution PLUS SPIE offers UP to 5% matching contributions and 25% vesting each year, 100% vested after 4 years.
- Paid Time Off plan begins at 31 days per year.

Physical work location in Bellingham, WA. Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full‑time basis. The employer will not sponsor applicants for work visas.

Minimum qualifications- Minimum of 3 years relevant, professional experience required
- Bachelor’s degree in a related technical field—or equivalent professional experience required
- Strong financial and business acumen, with experience managing budgets and performance
- A proven ability to lead people, navigate complexity, and deliver results
- Experience launching, growing, or managing education, training, or professional development programs with financial accountability preferred
- Minimum of 2 years’ supervisory experience preferred
- Project management experience preferred
