Position: Temporary Extra Help Accounting Technician - Health

Summary

Whatcom County Health & Community Services is seeking to fill the position of Temporary Extra Help Accounting Technician. This position fills a critical role in the business office of the Health Department, primarily responsible for grant tracking and invoicing in our complicated fiscal environment.

Essential

Job Duties
  • Independently researching, compiling, and preparing complex financial reports, budgets and audit information for contracts and grants.
  • Assisting program supervisors on grant requirements and compliance.
  • Ensuring reporting is completed in a timely manner.
  • Reconciling accounts receivable.
  • Receiving, receipting, reconciling and depositing money and goods.
  • Auditing employee time sheets for accuracy.
  • Preparing payroll.
  • Maintaining records of vacation, sick leave and all other payroll records.
  • Maintaining documentation of employee salary matrix placement and initiating source documents to implement changes to pay.

Hours of Work

This is a variable‑hour position, generally scheduled Monday–Friday between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. You may work full time for up to three consecutive months. After that period, the position is limited to no more than 69 hours per month.

Wage

$22.83 per hour.

Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • 4 years of progressively responsible experience in an accounting‑related field.
  • Completion of 15 credit hours of accounting or bookkeeping courses beyond the high school level.
Preferred
  • Experience with grant and contract accounting and monitoring.
  • Knowledge of governmental accounting.
