TITLE: Long Term Sub - .8 FTE Physical Education Teacher - Tuesday - Friday
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Physical Education (PE) Teacher develops the lesson plans and teaches classes related to exercise and health. Subjects include organized sports and first aid. PE Teachers use exams, assignments, tests and activities to assess student performance in their classes.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Teaches knowledge and skills in physical fitness, health education, and individual, dual or team sports, utilizing curriculum and other appropriate learning activities.
- Instructs students in citizenship and basic subject matter specified in state law and administrative regulations and procedures.
- Works cooperatively with other physical education teachers in planning and implementing a balanced physical education program.
- Analyzes, demonstrates, and explains basic skills, knowledge and strategies of formal sports, games, rhythms, and fundamentals of body movement.
- Develops lesson plans and supplementary materials.
- Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior to provide an orderly, productive environment in the physical education areas.
- Provides appropriate safety instruction and makes safety checks on equipment and field areas to ensure the overall safety of students.
- Evaluates academic and social growth of students, prepares report cards, and keeps appropriate records to include attendance reports, checklists, census forms, and other recordkeeping activities as necessary.
- Maintains control of storage and use of school property.
- Evaluates each student’s growth in physical skills, knowledge and contribution in team sports.
- Communicates with parents and school counselors on student progress.
- Supervises students in out of classroom activities during the assigned working day.
- Administers testing in accordance with division testing practices.
- Models nondiscriminatory practices in all activities.
- Maintains appropriate licenses and training hours as required.
- Complies with applicable District, state, local and federal laws, rules and regulations.
- Adheres to all standards established by Teachers Standards and Practices Commissions for Competent and Ethical Educators.
- Adheres to all Oregon Administrative Rules related to licensed educators.
- Attends work regularly.
- Focuses on making learning visible through effective student engagement.
- Works cooperatively with other team members to improve the instructional program.
- Effectively uses technology to support effective instruction and student learning.
- Evaluates and differentiates student progress and adapts individual programs to meet student needs.
- Implements Common Core curriculum with rigor, purpose, and planning.
- Assesses student learning, differentiates instruction accordingly.
- Creates classroom environment conducive to student involvement.
- Promotes high achievement expectations for students.
- Develops IEP, social/emotional goals for students.
- Participates in TEAM meetings, as needed.
- Performs other duties as assigned by Principal(s).
SKILLS/ABILITY:
- Effective oral and written communication skills.
- Commitment to remain current in content and pedagogy.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES and/or DEGREE REQUIREMENTS:
- Massachusetts DESE Physical Education Certification required.
- Bachelor's degree required, Master's degree preferred.
SALARY: 297.35 per day
