Overview

Reporting to the Manager of Child and Family Well-Being, the Family Enhancement Worker will provide a range of services designed to provide preventative and support services to children and their families. Family Enhancement Workers provide direct, intensive support to families in crisis, to address risk and strengthen family functioning. Family Enhancement Workers undertake thorough assessments and comprehensive planning with families, and follow a solution-focused, strength-based approach to making change.

The worker applies their knowledge of family dynamics and issues such as domestic violence, child development, and substance abuse to their interventions with families. The development of personal support and resources for the family, and building linkages to community, are important to successful casework.

Key Duties
  • Conduct needs assessments:
    Evaluate the needs of families experiencing difficulties such as neglect, abuse, or financial hardship.
  • Provide Support:
    Offer emotional and practical assistance to families, helping them develop coping strategies and access necessary resources.
  • Case Management:
    Collaborate with families to create and implement case plans, ensuring they meet goals and maintain a safe environment for children.
  • Liaison with Services:
    Function as a bridge between families and various social services agencies, helping them navigate the system and access supports.
  • Facilitate workshops:
    Organize and lead group activities or workshops to enhance family functioning and community connections.
Qualifications
  • The applicant must possess a bachelor's degree in social work / Indigenous social work.
  • Minimum 2-3 years work experience in child welfare protection / prevention, with an emphasis on case management experience.
  • Knowledge of child development.
  • Experience working in First Nation community.
