Your New RoleWe have multiple Product Research and Design internship opportunities available. By applying to this posting, you will be considered for various internships in this area, located in the Bellevue area. Selected interns will be expected to join us in the office on a regular cadence based on the intern manager’s in‑office schedule.
- HBO Max UX Research Intern
- CNN Product Design, Platforms Intern
- Dive into emerging UX topics to uncover user perspectives and best practices for video streaming to inform the design process.
- Contribute to developing new methods and techniques for remote research.
- Pitch in where needed on this highly collaborative, high‑functioning team.
- Research study design, remote study coordination, moderating study sessions, data analysis, and working with teams on implementing study findings.
- Create and iterate on tangible CMS features, such as new editorial workflows and content creation tools, that directly support how CNN journalists publish stories.
- Design and build reusable components for the CMS design system, helping it scale for the broader design team and ensuring visual and interaction consistency across the platform.
- Translate user research and editorial feedback into updated flows, wireframes, and high‑fidelity mockups that improve the day‑to‑day experience of newsroom users.
- Contribute to design system documentation by defining usage guidelines, edge cases, and examples so other designers and engineers can confidently adopt new components.
- Collaborate with Product, Tech, and Delivery partners to see projects through from concept to implementation, gaining experience in shipping real, user‑facing features.
- Experiment with AI‑powered design and prototyping tools to quickly explore, test, and refine ideas that shape the future of CNN’s publishing platform.
- Solid foundation in UX/UI design and curiosity about complex editorial tools.
- Proficiency in Figma (or similar), with ability to create flows, wireframes, and simple prototypes.
- Comfortable organizing design files, documenting components, and clearly communicating design decisions to cross‑functional partners.
- Empathetic, research‑minded approach to understanding user needs, especially non‑technical newsroom users.
- Completed coursework in user research methods and testing.
- Pursuing a degree or academic work in UX Research, Human‑Computer Interaction, Psychology, Computer Science, Cognitive Science, or a closely related field.
- Academic or industry familiarity with research methods such as usability testing, in‑depth interviews, diary studies, and competitive analysis.
- Passion for media streaming services (e.g. Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Prime Video, Disney+, Paramount+, Spotify, etc.) is a huge plus.
- Proficiency with remote study tools (e.g. , Qualtrics, Fig Jam, Optimal Workshop).
- Agile/growth mindset, curiosity about users, passion for great design, quick learner, asks a lot of questions, ready to dive in.
- An online portfolio or work samples with study plans, reports, and outcomes.
- Nice‑to‑have: familiarity with HTML/CSS and JS frameworks like React or Vue, and experience with design systems or CMS/internal tools.
